Water vapour is rising above the head of Roberto Carlos as the Brazilian football player was sweating and exercising at a Seoul World Cup stadium in cold weather on 19 November 2002, on the eve of a friendly with South Korea. The temperature dropped to a minimum of 4.8 below zero degrees celcius. Photo (AFP) - KIM JAE-HWAN

I tried after going under the knife, but my right leg couldn't keep up with my left... I felt like I was learning the sport all over agian... I hate my knee. let me re-phrase that: according to Brazillian Standards most of the countries suck big time in soccer, just like os US standards most of the countries suck big time in basketball... got it?
Just to illustrate: a couple of years ago, an US National Team player (his name escapes me at this moment) came here to play for Vasco Da Gama, a club from rio de janeiro, at that time Vasco was really bad, losing all matches. This guy passed all year without even making to the bench. The club president, Eurico Miranda (a despized creature) stated at that time, that he was a huge loss of money.

why USA sucks big time compared to Brazil in soccer:
USA best Achievements:
-- Semi-final 1930 FIFA World Cup Uruguay
-- Champion 1991 CONCACAF Gold Cup
-- Runner-up 1993 CONCACAF Gold Cup
-- 3rd 1999 FIFA Confederations' Cup Mexico
----------------------------------------
Brazil best Achievements:
-- FIFA World Cup winners 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, runners-up 1950, 1998
-- Copa America winners 1919, 1922, 1949, 1989, 1997, 1999
-- Runners-up in the Olympic Football tournament in 1976 and 1988
-- Winners of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1983, 1985 and 1993
-- Winners of the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 1997 and 1999

Americans are NOT the best human type units... Americans just have more resources. Not in terms of athletic ability or anything like that... more like they could produce ideal training grounds and conditions if they desire to do so. So I think Rev has a good point.
Guig0
April 11th, 2003, 03:43 PM
not a good point renn... and iīll tell you why:
Brazilllian teams usually donīt have good trainning facilities, but has the best soccer players of the WORLD.
Weīre not the first country to play soccer, infact european countries like England and Frace plays soccer way before us, and you can pick any great national team. France, Engladn, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Portugal, USA... they have better leagues, more money, better training facilities, but Brazil is nš 1
Why :q:
Coz the cultural factor plays a huge role in that matter.
Soccer is the first sport of every brazillian. When a child borns, if it is a girl she gets a doll, if it is a boy he gets a soccer ball.
The Famous brazillian drible (sp?) is something that goes back to the beginnings of the brazzilian soccer, where black slaves, while playing with white ppl, had to develop a way to pass the adversary without touching them, coz if a black slave touches a white man he was beaten by the entire team.
So, they created the soccer drible, the brazillian ginga (swing), something that very few non-south-american players has showed.
if you watch Ronaldo play, youīll know what i mean ;)
[EDIT]
have you ever heard of Pelé? And Zico?
if you have seen the conditions where these two players where born, educated and trained you would be surprized...
Pelé is the best soccer player of all times
Zico is the greates idol of the greatest brazillian club - flamengo, with 40.000.000+ of fans... yes, 40 million baby!
Zico praticallly created the Japanese soccer, he is like a god there.

Are you seriously saying, that if America paid $7 million/yr to a player, that USA couldn't put up a winning team? Think how much Barry Bonds makes this year. Then Michael Jordan, Shaq, Pudge Rodriguez, just to name a few. The payroll of the Yankees alone is something like $60 million/yr, just in payroll...
You don't think that even the most famous guy in all of soccer (Pele) wouldn't have switched teams when $10-15 million dollar contracts flappin' in his face?

And i know that money isnīt problem for USA, but just so you know Ronaldo last transaction whent over 50 million , his monthly paycheck is about 6 million.
In order to USA become a good soccer team, it will have to develop your entire sport culture, what has begun already, but it will take years... that isnīt something that happens over night.
If you guys keep the soccer industrie running, in the next 20 years USA may become a Soccer force.

We are arguing the same point.
I was saying, that if we put all of our resources into soccer, then Brazil, or Europe for that matter would come out of the woodwork to come play in America. It already happens in every other sport (and they could make as much playing soccer in Brazil?).
Renaldo's pkg. it was for 1 yr? how much in endorsements? how much was the rest of the team paid on average (in $US please)

The problem is we just dont like soccer here in the states.
I like soccer, but I have never followed it professionally. I used to play it to keep my stamina up for other sports in the off season.
Baseball on the other hand can pay the players many millions of dollars because we love it. It needs a salary cap like (real) football though.
Guig0

rev: all the values i mentioned is in american dollars
his transaction was for five years pass, costing to Inter (italian club) more than 50 million dollars, plus his monthly paycheck of more than 6 million dollars.
Brazillian teams canīt keep up with those prices, thatīs why all our excellent players are in other countries.
iīll repeat myself, america can buy all brazillian players to play in the america league, thus, creating a helluva league, but america canīt use brazillian players in his national team. Only americans can play in the USA national team. thatīs why USA wonīt be a big soccer team in the near future.
[EDIT] mind you that at the time of the transaction, Ronaldo was recovering from a knee surgery ;)
and i know, i know... money isnīt a problem for USA... i know that...

ok... that's not true... and I can give you MANY examples... did you know that the Japanese National Soccer Team has a brazilian dude?
Anyways... The U.S. is already becoming a force in soccer... I'm mexican, and this hurts like hell, cause we hate US soccer players. But anyways, it's true. Look how far they got into the World Cup last year... And the US has been trying to build a soccer culture for about 10 years... there are lots of soccer programs for kids under 13... it's amazing. Plus, the US is already #1 in Women's Soccer.
Also, you forget how competitive the US is... in the olympics, the US ALWAYS has the most medals... the US spends more money on sports than the next top 10 spenders combined...
BUT, the most important thing is... in the US, sports are not political... which is the secret of the current success of the US soccer team.

but i just wanna say that what is good about the USA is that they invent good games such as NBA, NHL etc and they are number 1 in it. BUT after all these games aren't international like football (soccer) and they dont try to make it international. all the games thatey play starts with an 'n' such as NBA, NHL and you know what 'n' stands for. but football is international. so brazil is the best in the world's best sport. so brazil rocks

i will tell you why would brazil stay the best in soccer. just like Guiog0 said brazilians would take a football for a present that means that soccer talent is born with them and they get better and better in it. but other countries try to develop a soccer talent. this way the soccer players maybe reach a very high level but there is a limit to his talent. this way will take a long time and 1/50 does that but when soccer talent is born with you this talent has no limit and it wont take alot of time. let us see how many good young players does not have a professional, international experience come out the last like 3 years from brazil and all european clubs fight over them.
1. ronaldhino (PSG)
2. denilson (spanish club)
3. elber (beyren M.)
4. lucio (Manchester)
5. edmilson (dont know)
those young 5 players came out only in the last like year and they have shown us what true soccer is. but those aren't the best players but those are the youngest
but other teams have 1 or 2 players who are really good who join the international team every year. but brazil gets like 5-6. now that is a huge difference. plus america cant be the best in everything. :P

There was some trash-talk involved, but basically we were saying the same thing. Non-national teams vs National teams, kind of apples vs. oranges kinda thang...
Because of the culture, Brazil will have the advantage for a very long time (also partially because of Pele'). I remember in High School, when we had a Brazillian living with us, all he could talk about was Pele'...
