Not too shabby for Swift 3D huh? :D I put prolly 10-12 hours into it.

That's really slick man, I don't like H2s and I don't see to many good Swift 3D things posted but this look yummy. Any plans to do any type of post production work on it to give a little more realism that you might not be able to get in Swift?

i'm working on texturing the entire thing right now. It should help out quite a bit. I plan to use this model for general renders but I also plan to export it out to 3D XAML so the textures should really help!

Very nice..
the only thing i have to complain 'bout is the grill. at the real hummer, it is a bit rounded. but that is nothing you need to fix, looking real nice as it is.

grimdeath - Check out iMediaTraining.com (http://www.imediatraining.com/index.php), they got some free video tutorials (http://www.imediatraining.com/index.php?categoryid=4) that you can view. One of them is titled Presentation Lighting (http://www.imediatraining.com/index.php?categoryid=4) made by me :) Give that one a look through and see if that helps.
Others have taken this method of lighting and made variations on it for even better results.
Thanks for all the compliments everyone!

ok, first thing i noticed was the "team erain" under your name... that made me assume that you have some pretty heavy experience in swift. I purchased swif.t3d version1 when it came out, but havent looked at it since... damn erain have erally stepped up the game... there is an advanced modellor now???... dude!!!... love it.. could u possibly render out a rotation to flash?...

did you say you did the model of the Hummer in Swift 3d? however did you do that? did you use the extrusion tool or some kind of pen tool or something to get the points so precise?
thanks! amazing work!!
jfoley
December 15th, 2005, 11:28 AM
Thanks for the compliments!
@slinkyart - It was in fact modeled in Swift 3D. You'd be surprised with the models being designed with it now-a-days. I modeled it using plane modeling (equivalent to edge extrusion modeling methods) and box modeling.

very cool man. i know how hard it is to model like that in Swift. i used to teach it back in V1 and V2 days. its the perfect compliment for Flash design, due to its vast vector and or raster output options.
for everyone new to Swift or 3d, it is the best program to start modeling in. it gets you used to lighting, different veiws, and the 3 axis. you might need a fast computer, not only for rendering, but for high polygon object movement. it gets rough trying to even move things around when you have alot going on.
i have not used Swift since V3. im addicted to Lightwave 8. its actually my best friend :) this is my latest creation, all sub patch, and uv-mapped. working on a tuner style version, with more of a racing look in mind; new rims, decals, carbon fiber hood, and of course the engine...

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Sweet modelling man. I never get past basic modelling in Swift3D cos I find it quite clumsy, but I think you should spend some time giving us all a TUTE on how you used SWIFT's modelling facilities to get such an interesting model.
COOL! :thumb2:

Workin on it!
I'm putting together a tutorial for modeling a Pontiac Solstice.
It is for advanced Swift 3D Users and its a very vague tutorial so there is a lot left for users to 'fill in'. Its a very casual tutorial.
You can check it out here: http://www.erain.com/support/tutorials/v4/solstice/ (http://www.swiftdev.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=3139)

Very well done. :thumb2:
May I ask, why not make the wheels (rims) rounder (increase segmentation)?
Ever thought about adding front seat interior and clearing the front windshield so you can see in? ;)

@PCGamre - Yeah, segmentation is the reason. I needed to keep it as low poly as possible. I'll try to post a video of how it was used.
gpdesigner
March 9th, 2006, 09:25 AM
That hummer is pretty sweet . . . how many polys did you use to make it ?
I know it's a low poly mesh for gaming but only one crit I have the edges are a bit too square, not a huge issue especially if it came in under 4,000 poly's.
good job tho . . . . very nice

Not bad for a low poly. Nice choice... lol. Hummers are really squared.

Considering such a low poly count, it's fantastic! Very well done!
My friend just completed an RR a few days back in Maya and now wants to go for an Audi RSQ.
I'm planning to work on a Lamborghini or a Mercedes myself. Any tips from the pros? ;) I'll be using Max though. :)
