I've been asked to design www.sanjosedelpacifico.com (http://www.sanjosedelpacifico.com) , now this is my first time designing a web site, but I'm the only person in the state who can make things in flash, and knows how to use Dreamweaver. I thought making a site for a town would be nice in my non-existent portfolio, so I accepted... But I do not know how much I should charge. The town is very small, and gets most of it's money from hand crafts and drugs... So I can't expect premium prices.

How much should an un-experienced web deisnger, charge a poor town?

:ponder:

Hmmm well it really depends how poor or rich they are... Maby you should ask them how much they are willing to pay and then bargin with them.

well, the town population probably doesn't surpass 200 people... there are two restaurants, one hotel... and the rest of the people live in cabins along the mountain side...

If you expect that they don't have a lot of money then trade is like gold to those types of clients. Ask for trade for a few free stays during non peak times. I think that would be awesome, free vacation!...plus ask them to have you stay there while you work on it and take photos...that would be sweet. Free stuff rules.

Hahaha that's a great idea, but... I live 20 minutes from there... I see that stuff every day, and take pictures all the time. Although you're right, perhaps I should request something either than money, perhaps... a yarn bag? I like yarn stuff... No, I'd get a nice leather one. Thanks

I'll try to see if he'll trade my services for a free leather bag.

There is a great book called "Graphic Artist's Guild pricing and guidelines handbook" or something along those lines, it explains rights, laws, pricing and lots more! it should help on some level. When you're an artist being hired to do a job, you are always a professional, not a student or an amature.

this is your tipical design agency money (http://www.juretic.com/priceguide/?referrer=consultancy)... compare your skills to theirs and slash prices accordingly...

How to come up with numbers:
final price = time (in hours) spent on project x hourly wage (e.g. 15£) + electricity bill /24 hours/ 20 working days + used software price / 12 months (depending on in how many months you want your software expenses to return) + snacks, lunch, smokes ( or ***s ;]) x days spent on project.... and so on ;]
