It has potential. Seems a bit bland at this stage, but if you keep at it, character will build with time. :)

dark. used font has to visible so you have to go with light blue or white
font. You wanted a 3d effect on that ball and ... it didnt work. Fonts are too smal.
3d effect. this didnt work either. If you want to do it correctly use a lighter shade of blue and do it without balc outline. Instead of ball shape go for the disc look and try to do the highlight in a tear-drop shape.
usability. will look bad on a website, worse on anything else.
+
idea.

I think you may be add shadow And light on it ,like icons on WINDOW XP.And fonts are hard to read if the scale of this logo is smaller.

that's not what logos are about.
anyway, the logo's 1) not very legible (both b/c of contrast and font size) and 2) not scalable (try scaling this down smaller and see how the text becomes even more illegible.

Def. need a better font choice, and it is a bit dark. I suggest not going into a lot of detail though. You don't want the logo to be hard to understand, you want it to represent you, and be easily remembered. So shy away from any "effects" as stated above and stick with simple yet effective vectors and the such. (as you already have)

thanks guys...yeah I was trying to keepaway from too many effects, just wanted to keep it simple.

Like most people, it seems a bit bland (I don't mean most people seem a bit bland... You knwo what I mean). Give it effects, but don't give it really heavy bevels, glows or shadows. I think the blue colour could be brightened a bit aswell, because at the moment it's not really hard to read, but you know.
I agree with most above me.

Please, please stop with the 3D. It does NOT work. When have you ever seen a big-name company use a 3D logo? I've never seen one. It makes it look very tacky, Im sorry. Also, in my books, bevel on text is a big no-no. It dosen't work, unless you really know what your doing. I would never go for a bevel. Its good that you tried to bring in some colour with the orange, bu it doesn't fit with the others. Try something simple. Work out what your company is about. For instance, check out nokrevs new logo. He included the grass/flower to show growth, try working out some kinda meaning, or atleast pretend to :P
Dont be discouraged by what I said, that the worse you can do. Trust me, its getting better from the last one. Keep working at it, and you will get there. Good Luck! :D

thanks, I this crit is what i need, and what most people need, I was thinking not to use the bevel effects and keep it without the 3d effect. thanks
I was thinking of something more along the lines of this...

Getting better, but its going back to the blandness of the first one. use brighter colours, it'll look much, much better.

Check out this page for some inspiration:

While I don't like the fact that these logos have been created for no one in particular (and thus, lack personality) they are very well done and professional. See how they are mostly flat color and iconic? Even the 3D ones are very simple and use very little color - little or no gradations. The simpler the graphic, the easier it is to remember. The cleaner it is, the more professional it looks.
When I create a logo, I usually use 2 colours at most... and one of the colours is going to be black. That way, when printing business cards or letterhead, the costs are minimal, and reproduction is easier.
All imho, of course.

Maybe bring that orange back in for the "N"
OR just use white.... But yea, much better ...
Beveled text is a big "no no" IMO.
PEACE,

i would try to make it in just b&w for right now. you have contrast issues which make the N hard to read.

here's my stab..
obviously, this is good for web, but not so much for print.. but it'll look fine on both. now you may want something a little more solid.. patterns or whatever aren't really a good thing to have.. i was just messing around.
i don't know.. thoughts?

and to reply to the "ups" comment..
all ups did to their logo is add a little lighting to make it look "modern"
lighting and small shadows make a huge difference to a logo

Also I need some suggestion for the Letter.
My company name is Noir Web Development, if that helps with the suggestions.

OK Noir, try this: in photoshop, convert your logo to grayscale. Now ask yourself, "Does it stand out? Does it have enough contrast?"
UPS comes to mind
I believe that the 3d version is used only on their website.
OT: They really should have stuck with their old logo - it was such a classic.

that "3d" version is used everywhere are everything that it can be used.
huge trucks, packages, etc..
i kinda like their new look. i wouldn't argue with you if they had totally changed the logo like sprint did, but they didn't. cingular did a great thing, but sprint screwed themselves

Not enough contrast is my first thought. Seems to blend together too much.

it seems to stand out ok in greyscale, I just need to make the colours contrast well.
mind u i'm not the greatest photoshop designer, but i'm learning so bear with me.

Hehe - you're living up to your name NoirWD! Personally I think it's a pretty even contrast - there's hardly any difference between your lightest areas and your darkest areas. Ok, I loaded this up in PShop and your front band is 87% black and the N is 84% black. That's only a 3% difference in tonality ...and these elements rest on a 100% black ball.
Imagine reading a newspaper covered entirely of you're greys with black type - wouldn't that be hard to read? If you want your logo to pop, it needs much more contrast.

Hi guys, here is another stab at a new logo.
It a little more simple but I don't think the blue fits in well but maybe it does.
let me know.
thanks in advance.

that last one is the best next to the very first one you posted...except it's still looking 3d, which is alright with this one, it's much better than that ball you had going for awhile...

well i´m not really sure about 3D logo...
never seen a big company with a 3D logo and to make a positive critic i think that's look like a 3D stuff...not a logo

I'm thinking I might stay with the 3d effect for now until I come up with a flatter logo.
But thanks anyway...and I know big companies don't have 3d logos, but Noir WD might be one of the few. :D
I know its not your fortey but is there anything that you guys might fix?
Thanks.

I think this logo is the best one. Perhaps change the black outline to a lighter color so it wouldn't look like a cartoon? I like it!

use your first picture put change the colors so it looks like a deep black pit and make it shiney
1. there is only depth shown on the bottom
2. too much text for such a small area
3. not much of a logo
4. shiny doesn't to well as a logo (especially corporate)
5. he's made improvement from this image, push him forward
