This is about 95% done but hasn't gone live yet. Thought i would share it with the Kirupa crowd first.

Tell me what you think. (but only if you like it...just kidding)

Nice job. My only complaint is that it seems a bit too 'cartoonish'. Adding a more life-like feel would definitally not annoy me as much. Keep up the good work. :)

Yeah... interesting ideas, definetly, but I would probably like it more if it wasn't so cartoonish. The very simple cartoon graphics on an professional site just annoys me, I'm not sure why.

Definetly good work though, its functional and still works.

nice and friendly, only problem i had is the audio and video are skippy. i'm viewing it with a cable connection and it is all very skippy/choppy for me. i'm guessing it's a problem with the flv encoding.

I'm viewing it on a cable connection and the audio/video worked fine for me.

i think the gradient background is a bit plain and doesnt do a good job blending everything together but everything else looks and sounds nice. The demo reel is good too.

I am not sure what's going on with the video for you. You are the first to tell me it was skipping. I will keep that mind and see if anyone else has that problem.

I think that the audio and idea is alright, but it doesn't really seem all that professional. IMO of course. I think if you could tidy up the graphics a bit, and really dig down into photoshop and get those edges cleaner and not so pixelated and really shy away from kid type drawings of everything that clients would be more inclined to go with you. Ideas are always good, so keep at it and good luck to you!

I think you have misunderstood. This isn't my portfolio. It is for a client of mine which really likes and he is ultimately who I am designing for. The design was intentional and fits with his personality and style of the company. It is ok if you don't like, I am cool with that. As designers, we have to do designs that we ourselves might do for our own site but that fits with the vision of the client.
thanks,

I knew it wasn't your portfolio. I believe I worded some things incorrectly in my critique. Either way, if the client is happy with it, that's alright, but at the same time I would want it to be as good as it could be, rather than settling on what the client is just "happy with". That way I would want to show it in my portfolio later on, rather than not use it. Your call obviously. Good luck once again.

not to sound like a Luddite...but does it NEED to be in Flash 8? I'm running a brand new g5 with latest Tiger update and I don't even have the flash 8 player (haven't installed it yet as i just transfered my stuff from a powerbook).

So i can GUARANTEE that 99% of your clients will not have the flash 8 player installed. When Studio 8 came out...that for me was the go-ahead to start publishing Flash 7. The public is always 1 release behind the developers (although I have the Studio 8 upgrade coming very soon and can't say I'm not excited).

Nicely done. I have that exact same Atari joystick you used in the portfoio page. Anyway, if its what the client has asked for i cant see why people are saying it doesnt look proffesional enough.

EDIT: This obviously has nothing to do with you as a designer so its a little off topic but: Just realised it says that mindseye productions can make "Fun animated websites like this one". If this is so true then why did they not make their own site?

it's creative, but graphically it's not what it could be. i do dig the idea a lot, though

Your right, flash 8 it isn't wide spread yet but it will be. The quality of video and the speed at which it loads is great. I am no expert at flash 8 but I couldn't get this quality in the previous Flash MX. I think the whole selling point with version 8 is the video capabilities. My trial is running out...I guess I will have to pay to ugrade soon.
