View Full Version : How do I increase forum population?

I have a forum here. It is about anime, flash, and other general things.

It is relatively active but only has around 70 members. How do you think I can increase this?

1) Make all the fonts about 2-3 sizes smaller, unless your target audience is senior citizens.

2) Possibly a skin where the border isnt 10x as dark as the td's within it (aka increase td color) and choose a few good colors and stick with them (cant say I like the colors, or the fade grapic). Actually I cant really pinpoint exactly what I dislike about the skin, its just the overall feel - and I used to be a forum critique. Or get someone to design one for you, buy one, or find a free one.

3) Try advertising on other flash/graphics forums, put your site link in search engines like google.com, etc. Its a know fact that google.com bases its ratings on your links essentially, so naming key words in say the announcements/news forum and linking to the press release, or full article, etc. will help at google.com. And of course paying for advertising would help. But thats just hits, who knows if they will stay, in order to get people to stay I would start with 1) and 2).

4) Get rid of the text on each forum: Moderators Gold Mods (http://www.kehbop.com/phpBB2/groupcp.php?g=3), Silver Mods (http://www.kehbop.com/phpBB2/groupcp.php?g=4), Trial Mods (http://www.kehbop.com/phpBB2/groupcp.php?g=5), thats a clutter, put it at the bottom of each category, or the bottom of the page, not on every forum. (theres usually one at the bottom of the page anyway).

5) Pay GreenLantern $10.

Font size is great. Makes it very easy to read, unless of course that's beause you've already changed it. :thumb:

Mess with the header, and make the page less wide. Other than that, not bad.

Oh yeah.. I forgot sometimes forums can mess up in Firefox. In Firefox the font is about 3 sizes higher than the font here at kirupa. They only mess up because the HTML coding is bad though..
