i tried to make this with Krafted paper pattern and overlay color but nothing.
it's not getting even close to this.
and im not talking about the light/shadow effect.
am i that newbie? :h:

but back to the MAIN issue of this thread - how you do this...

i would pile lots of textures and colors in overlay and multiply. one overlay layer of a texture will not do it. it needs to be richer and deeper.

and how do you make the shadow/light effect around?

sometimes i use layers that are just filled with color to control tones and hues. it depends on how color rich you want it to be. i often will start with a layer of pure color then use the magic wand to grab a cool looking texture and delete the selection from my color. that way i get color and texture control in one layer. i hope that makes sense.
for the shadow thing i would probly put a black layer on top of everything, then use a feathered selection or a fuzzy bruth to delete the areas you want to show.
