Select the image
File>Export
choose .png and choose background>transparent

You can also have transparency in other formats too, but still same method...
File>Export...

Hope this helps!

Won't just saving as an illustrator .ai file or .eps file do that.

There are (at least) two ways to go ...

ONE: Mark what you need in Illustrator and copy it (CTRL+C) and paste it in Flash (CTRL+V)

or

TWO: Export it as a SWF in Illustrator (File->Export->Choose SWF as Filetype) and import it in Flash (File->Import to Stage/Library)

Hope that is of any help ;)

you guys (apart from jay-em) are forgetting that he doesn't necessarily want it as a flash or illustrator file. so sure, if you're keeping it in a vector program then you don't need to worry about the background, but normally this kind of thing is for a website or something, so it can't be a vector object... .png is really the best way (or i think .gif can have basic transparency maybe?).

Thanks for your help guys, but I'm still a little lost. I did what Jayem said- selected my logo-went to file- selected png but there wasn't anything about transperancy just the normal export screen. Where did I go wrong?

And yes this isn't for flash but for a powepoint. Thank you :)

For powerpoint, you'll need .png, try save for web from illustrator, should have the option to save as .png with transparancy.
