Yes it was a joke. a bad one at that...
I'm not sure why no notice was left. I assume it was an oversight, and nothing should be construed by it.

Alright, whatever. Anyways, I did my kirupa cribs feature in flash - I want to encourage the rest of you to do the same. It'd be cool to see what you guys come up with. It's a time investment, but I can tell you guys that I learned a lot by doing it. I'm getting faster at dealing with motion.

lava

April 2nd, 2003, 10:20 AM
Thanks. :)
Yeah, it's cool, we've been living here for 12 years now. Before that, we had a house in Mexico and Italy. We moved a lot when I was younger for my dad's job. Now that my brother and I are studying, that's not possible anymore. We stay here, together with my mum... and my dad when he's not abroad.

April 2nd, 2003, 10:22 AM
where are you originally from?
Kajinku
April 2nd, 2003, 10:24 AM
I was born in Belgium and have the Belgian nationality. My dad is a Belgian, my mother is French. My brother was born in Italy, but he's a Belgian too. ;)
lava
April 2nd, 2003, 10:25 AM
and where in mexico?
Kajinku
April 2nd, 2003, 12:37 PM
When I was 3 months to 11 months: Villahermosa, in the state of Tabasco. There was this volcano thing going on at the time. We had to evacuate the house and all. Of course I don't remember it myself, but my parents told me and showed me pics.
Then we came back to Belgium for a while and went back.
The second time I was 3, and we left Mexico when I was 5 years old. This time we lived in Lazarro Cardenas (I don't remember the state... I think it might be Michoacon)
And for Italy: A bit outside Rome. :)
lava
April 2nd, 2003, 12:54 PM
what do your parents do that they move around so much?
Kajinku
April 2nd, 2003, 01:05 PM
The ultimate interview. ;) Just kidding.
Well, my mum doesn't work anymore, and my dad is an industrial engineer for the Belgian company Dredging International (http://www.dredging.com/).

hey man, I clicked there for employment, but I can't read it!
hehe
Kajinku
April 2nd, 2003, 01:21 PM
Heh :) Yeah, first in English then in Flemish (Which is the Belgian version of Dutch. The difference is like UK and US English.).
Anyway, if you want to apply, you can always send your motivation and CV to jobs@dredging.com. Maybe you'll have to come to Belgium then. ;) I sent my CV and all, but I don't think those guys need Programmers and Computer Scientists, except for some small helpdesk jobs. They told me I'm in their database for further reference. My dad specialized his studies in construction, which is actually what they do. That, combined with physics and mechanics.

grrr, I bear a grudge against Belgian train conductors(well, not really but...) A couple of years ago me and a couple of friends were travelling round Europe with a go-anywhere-for-a-month train ticket. The starting and ending points were decided by where we could get dirt cheap plane tickets for, our flight home was from Brussells.
We spent our last few days finishing our cash in Amsterdam, then made a mad dash to Brussells to catch the flight. When we got to the central train station we immediately saw an "airport express" train. Perfect.
Just to make sure, I asked the conductor if there was only one airport in Brussells, he said there was.
We got to the airport and couldn't find the desk we were meant to go to. we checked at the information desk and they said. "Oh, you want to be in the OTHER airport" the OTHER bloody airport??
we worked out how long it would take us to get to this other airport by train. we'd get there an hour after our flight left. having spent almost all of our cash in Amsterdam we couldn't afford another flight. so we took a train back to central, jumped in a cab and said step on it. we made it just in the nick of time, and had to throw our rucksacks into the luggage ourselves!
he could've just said "no, there are two airports"
what a long, boring, off topic story. ah well.

Very true though. You have a hidden good point: public transport in Belgium just sucks. Trains arrive too late, *especially* when you have to do a final exam at school. Cabs are very expensive, and bus drivers are never friendly. Plus, they arrive late too.
You probably had to go to the Zaventem airport right?
And, back in Amsterdam... you spent the money on souvenirs? ;)
[Legoman]
April 3rd, 2003, 04:46 AM
I think maybe the Zaventem was the one we wrongly went to first, though I'm not sure...
and yeah, souvenirs, that's right. lots of lovely souvenirs... ;)

I remember some streets in Amsterdam that had this particular "souvenir" smell... and those erm... nice neon lights.
