Why does this „Round rectangle“ tool exist in Flash if you can't draw with it?

Every time I use it I became frustrated, because of blurred corners and I have to use bitmaps from Fireworks or other programs. You can see attachment if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

Its a known problem and has been addressed in Flash 8.

A workaround that usually works for prior versions is zooming in 200%, selecting all your points in the rounded rectangle and using the arrow keys to move them once left and once down. What this does is position the path nodes on half locations in the pixels rendering them directly on specific pixels as opposed to halfway between two (which is why you see what you see with the curves)

Yes, I usually move rectangles on x.5 y.5 and than they look much better. I've seen some features of Flash 8 and I need them all desperately :)

Senocular they should be putting you on the Macromedia beta team, that way we wouldn't have to go through so manyupdates

I hope they've sorted the drawing tools out in Flash 8, I find them so clumsy compared to illustrator. I usually do all my drawing in illustrator and import, sometimes Flash add's redundant anchor points that make shape tweening really difficult and haphazzard.

couldn't have said it better myself.

in fact I'm growing to hate flash rapidly. I want it to work so bad, but even though I thoroughly understand the interface, everytime I go to draw something in there, I want to punch a hole in my monitor. right now, for example, it refuses to let me simply stroke a rectangle.

I need counseling.

hey, btw, did they improve the pen tool in the new version of flash?? I'm working w/ mx, is that why it's a piece?

is there a reason why flash arbitrarily adds anchor points to my basic shapes? is there any way to acheive illustrator's "convert anchor point tool" functionality?

you can always delete those extra porint and use the move tool rather than the anchor point select tool (open arrow) to make your simple shapes. If you hit v on your keyboard and then hover over the edge of the shape you want to adjust you will notice your tool will change to reflect a curve or point with that displayed click and drag to adjust the curve or point. You actually have to work a little differently in flash in order to make drawing easier, eg instead of trying to create the shape on the flow and then adjusting, its more like create some basic outlines to the shape fill then adjust the edges. experiment and look into the tools to learn a little more about them.
