This is going to be my new flash site. I have already done the 3d animations for when you click on each building (it will fly you to that area and the content will pop up)

I would like some comments on those rollovers? they will be animated and such, but how are those going so far?

I know the buttons need some work... but just give me good feedback/ideas... :)

very nice and unique, good job! May i ask what programs did u use for drawing, modeling, animations?

Its gonna be nice if you can pull off those rollovers in 3d space. Hoepfully you used a real 3d app instead of Swift. because if so you could do some awesome compositing in AE with that layout.

ooohh...oooohh..another idea. You should have things going on in thebgrd even when nothing is happening. like lights coming on, cars driving, birds........u get my point. Make it like a real environment. That would be off the chain!!

That's really nice! I can't wait to see the finished product! What program did you use to design the buildings? Illustrator? Or something else? :thumb:

That's one sweet concept you've got there ! Definitely keep going with this one :thumb:

Thanks for the responses :)

I used 3dsmax and a toon shader for the buildings.

I am definitely going to have cars driving around even when it’s static.

The rollovers I did in photoshop, so I can transport them into Flash easily and animate them.

Looks great and your perception of what it will look like with the effects is pretty sweet :) Got the makings of something great.......lets hope you succeed my friend :)

i can't wait to see the final work !

please avoid using pop up and stuff... <what if > <on press> it zooms into the landscape then use some part of the building as a background... for e.g the ground

I would change the contact buttons etc. to the same style the effects have when clicked on a building.

Very nice indeed.

Wow that's amazing . I can't wait until you have all of the people walking around and the cars driving and whatnot. Are you going to have the city rotating around? That would be sweet.

Minor: It looks like the curbs are a little bit off.

Hmm yea I see that curb is off thanks for the heads up. :)

For the animations what will happen is the camera will zoom down to street level and maneuver through the streets and then focus on the building, so it will be cool and you'll get a glimpse of the rest of the city from different views. The animations are rendering now…

Unlike most flash sites that use 3d like this it wont pan back to the original view and then go to the other section if you want to jump from section to section. Im rendering animations between each building and 3 from the main view to each building (not to mention the intro animation) (10 total) So it makes it more realistic and sets the site apart from other 3d sites like this that seem to be popping up now. Plus it shouldnt be too much to load...

Keep the feedback coming, I want to make this as best as possible, you guys can help me out :)

awesome. I agree with DDD, add little nitpicky things like cars going by and such. Heheh this reminded me of the good old days playing GTA.

Wow, thats awesome! Are the buildings vector? Because otherwise, I'd say this is gonna be quite some big file. Looks really nice though. I wish I had those skills! What's going to happen to those rollOvers once you click and start going through the city?

Just curious, did you use sketchup 4 this?

JonM
September 9th, 2005, 07:09 PM
DDD: No I didnt use sketchup, I used 3dsmax

Phlashman: The buildings are not vector, if they were it might actually be the same amount or even more of a filesize as there are a lot of details (1.2 million polies in the 3d scene). For the animations I will use compressed video so the file size shouldnt be too big.

Wow JonM looks pretty cool, I'm currently working on a site for myself as well where the main focus is on a castle being attacked. Are you going to texture the buildings and put stripes on the roads and ect? It definately could use some color. If that is the ocean in the background maybe put some jeddies going off into the ocean and model some waves out there, a surfer dude, shark, and some of those umbrella things they use on the beach to sit under. Anyway its looking great!
