yep Swift 3d is a good one to start but has a lot of limitations... its a basic program but if u master it u can make very very cool stuff

actually swift is not as easy as it used to be, I doubt he will learn in in a hour. I find Lightwave the easiest to learn of the big boys.....Everything is pretty self explanatory for the basics of modelling and the interface is friendly

Lightwave is a good one too...I just found that Swift was easy for me because I was already familiar with Maya and 3D Studio Max so Swift was a cakewalk compared to those.

Wow, good luck learning ANY 3d program in an hour... yikes. I mean... 3d is a complex subject altogether if you don't know any of the terminology and tools involved in such processes. Just learning those alone will surely take over an hour.

But anywho, I wish you luck anyway... and while we are throwing out programs... http://www.blender3d.com/ seems powerful, and it's free in the first place... you know... since I know most of these programs you are downloading probably aren't trials :sigh:

lost, i found blender to be a bit icky... yes it's free (i mean actually free :P) but with no 3d experience i got really frustrated with the tools, then started maya and got further quicker... although the tricky stuff in maya is darn hard.

I actually think that 3ds is a LOT easier. It's just, well, was, easy for me to learn it and get used to it.

Depends on what you call learnt.

All 3d apps are primarily the same. Pull, Extend, and Sub-d verts and polys. Once you learn one you should be able to hit the ground running on anyother app. I recommend having a look at Modo as well. Especially if you liked Silo. www.luxology.com they have a new upgrade coming soon as well that is to include a renderer.
