Hello to all!

Okay...here we go.

I'm actually more of a freelance video and audio postproduction type of person, but I've been dabbling in freelance web design off and on. Well after my first real site (http://www.flashbacksdanceclub.com/) , I've had a few others approach me for work as well. Most of these want sites that are out of my skill set, but there are a few that are worth tackling.

Some ask me for a business card some ask me for my site (which I never thought of doing until now), but I don't have either.

What I would like is business card, a site and a nice logo to put on both. Well I can handle my site, but not the logo. :cowboy:

Here's where you come in (just in case you were skimming)!

I need a logo. I'm open to anything at the moment. I like too many designs too really know what I want exactly. Here are some things that I want to be able to do with the logo:

Clean and simple, but not bland.
No neon colors - maybe just neutrals and white I suppose.
The logo and text would be together and yet separate - think Microsoft and their Windows logo or Sony's Playstation and their logo.
Whatever that logo looks like it would have to be customizable - for instance right now I've watched the Cowboy Bebop box set so I want a rustic/grunge feel to the logo, next year it might be Samurai Champloo. I hope that makes sense.

I know, that's not a lot to go on. The text would be "jasarius" or course. The logo image would be whatever you imagination can come up with.

I've looked around the net at all types of logo services and I'm not sure if anyone does packages like the big companies, but I would need basically the same set of items (logo file types including .eps, .jpg, .bmp, .tif, .psd, .png, and .gif, grayscale/black & white format for fax and newspaper advertisement, stationery layout & design, ect.).

I'm sure you've seen the the sites.

I wanted to come here first because the Kirupa community kicks tail, you work with Flash, Macromedia is a close personal friend of yours and Studio 8 rocks.

I wanted to see some sample work from anyone who is interested and what you would charge. Remember I'm freelance and not Fortune 500, I'm also in college with 16 hours this semester so be gentle. I would pay half up front and the rest upon completion.

If you want to post some samples here, feel free to do so. But I definately would want you to email me (see my profile) any samples or questions. :thumb2:

A logo will be the company's image.. face and branding... making a logo for free is like getting a free push into the industry. They should at least pay for a logo.

Good luck finding someone to make a logo for you. I would offer myself, but I probably don't have the skill you're looking for.

Also, thanks to everyone for replying so quickly. To follow up, yes I will be paying (its somewhere in the original post). If you want to conctact me, send me an email via the contact form on the profile (it should work). I've gotten some PM's already...thanks.

I think I'll make a closing date for everyone that wants to submit themselves for consideration.

Last day to submit will be 10-9-05 midnight PDT (Sept. 10, 2005 in the US).

I will look at all the submissions/samples and then take the top half that I like. It will then be about who I can afford? I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for so the cheapest isn't my goal.

On the other side of that...I don't believe in spending money on new cars so the most expensive I can afford isn't my goal as well. Right in the middle with the Nissan's and Honda's.

I'm not sure if that made sense...I'm tired. I've got a test in the AM. Email me for questions. I'll try to reply to the PM's tomorrow.

That could lead to a huge waste of time for all involved. The best way is to go about it the way he is. Folks show their samples/portfolio then based on that he chooses whom to work with. This is a normal method in the business world.

Well it's certain that you'll have more options if everyone is involved. But in my opinion whatever the way you choose the price should be clear before the designers start to work, so they can decide if it will worth trying or not. Otherwise it may get too complicated discussing the charge after the design is made.

I agree here at least set a price would be good. But I think it would be better for all involved if you just pick a designer from what samples you have seen (that assuming you have received a good pool of participants). I know for one myself I will not be participating in a "free-for-all", not saying you wont get a good turn-out. But from my experience more often than not these dont turn out well. but the choice is yours, and I will critique till my heart is content if you decide a free-for-all is the way you want to proceed.

Okay, here's the deal.

First of all, thanks for the output.

Secondly, if you are interested in doing a logo for me, submit a portfolio and your general price. In other words I'm taking bids just like a company would for a normal job. If you are interested, even if you have contacted me within the last few days do the following:

If you are interested contact me via the contact form
Submit the URL to your porfolio or if you have a .PDF of samples, email it to me.
Along with that, submit your general price - you already know what I want (see original post).
Also submit your Name, Email and expected time it will take to do the project.
I will contact those that are within my price range. I will then ask each to submit a "brief" rough draft of what they're concept is for my logo. This extra step is so I know that we are on the right sheet of music. This can be hand drawn or whatever. When you have that idle time where you wondering what site to go to or what to type into your blog...or if you're on hold with your mobile phone company, jot it down then and send it to me. I will then select based upon those two general requirements.

Does that sound fair enough?
