View Full Version : Rail Strikes

Once more the rail services are disrupted, thanks to workers going on strike. This means that not only did I have to endure condition similar to a battery farm on the way into work this morning, but I'm also going to have a repeat performance on the way home. Plus trains are only running one every hour.
I'm considering leaving early.
And what are the odds that I'll get a refund on my train ticket for this didruption? I should be so lucky...

Hmmm, pretty much all our transport is in a mess isn't it Kit. :(
This morning there are road works on the busiest road in my town, and the temporary traffic lights only chenge every 15 minutes!! So I'm sat on my bus for 15 minutes waiting for the lights to change to green. Its so unbelievable!
Keep smiling :)

Um... I haven't learned to drive yet.
When I was 17, I had the time but not the money. Now I'm 24 I have the money but not the time. I've sent off for my provisional licence though. :)
Work is about an hour away from where I live (I'll get pics of my house for that other thread, maybe even of where I work :) ). The train is cheaper than driving. It's £6 a day to park up here as well, so add that to petrol...

We should all live and work in hills in small huts and dance around the camp fire at night! And then fall in love with the girl who milks the cows, and then get our own little hut. :beam:
Sorry :-\

well, i dunno where you live, kit, but if you live in a big city there's really no need for cars is there?

I wouldn't say it's a city. Where I live is called the Medway Towns. It's a collection of about four large towns, situated on the river Medway. They are heavily populated though, lots of houses and roads, with a shopping centre in each. There's the railway that goes throught them all up to London. There's also a motorway (M2) that runs parallel to them going to the coast and London. There are buses, but they're expensive and awkward and don't always go to where you want. Look at www.medwaytowns.com to see more. :)
Anyway, my other half has a car. We need it to go shopping and stuff and get to work occasionally. Plus where we live is a little way from town centres, and there's no bus routes that go nearby.
A car really helps. We could live without one, but it's preferable not to. :)

****... I've had a truck since I was 16... I worked just so I could buy my truck.. Got my license as soon as I turned 16 as well...
Cinderella License that is.. Then when I turned 18 I grabbed the real deal... Now only one more year and I'll be able to buy some 6 packs and chill at the house more often ;)
Driving has got to be the funnest thing out there to do... I love it! :beam:

Really?
Alls you have to do here is take a simple questionaire to get your lerner's permit.. And then when you are ready to take it.. You take the actual driving test...
I took mine like.. 2 weeks after I got my learner's permit :P

learning's now taking me 3.5 years.
i never had a car so it was pointless to get a license. i still drive around though, using other people's cars.
