i'm debating on whether or not i should get Flash mx 8 alone or pony up the extra $300.00 and get Studio 8.

anybody got any advice? i already have studio mx but it's an educational version so I can't justify using it to make any money. so that's a moot point i guess.

does Studio 8 come with Fireworks?

anybody done anything with FlashPaper?

i might as well take the $300.00 hit now and quite complaining!

Yes Studio 8 comes with Fireworks (doesn't it say that pretty clearly on the site?). Flashpaper can be pretty slick, plus if I'm not mistaken it'll let you print to a PDF also which is very nice. I'd imagine that the extra would be worth it for Dreamweaver and Fireworks alone. I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to afford it :(

yeah, it says that on the site i'm sure but i haven't been there for a few days.
(fireworks)

I'm gonna have to turn some tricks to pay for it myself! $999.99 worth!

You should take a look at the new upgrade plan. If you can land yourself a copy of an older version of Fireworks for cheap, you can get studio 8 at the upgrade price saving you some money.

even if it's only fireworks? wouldn't it have to be the whole studio and full version?
does it have to be the previous version?

senocular

nope, as of 8 its ANY version of ANY single core Studio application (Flash, Fireworks or Dreamweaver). See

Scenario: I have a MAC version of Fireworks 2. I want to upgrade to the Windows version of Studio 8. Am I still eligible for upgrade even though I have switched platforms?

I decided to go this route:

1. i bought a brand new full version copy of flash 4 (since my present copy of flash mx is academic) online for $59.49

2. i pre-ordered studio 8 (the upgrade) for $399.99

I think so...

If I install my copy of Studio on the Microsoft Windows platform first, can I switch my license to the Apple Macintosh or vice versa? When you activate Studio 8, you will have chosen your primary platform. Once you have chosen the primary platform for your installation, all subsequent installs must be on the same platform. Macromedia does not offer cross platform upgrades at this time.

So I guess you just get 'both', but you have to chose @ startup

Nope.

We do not offer cross-platform upgrade because Macromedia software is platform specific. Since you have Fireworks for Macintosh you are only allowed to purchase Studio 8 upgrade for Macintosh if you wish to have the latest version.

You need to buy the full version of Studio 8 if you intend to use the software on a Windows operating system. For your purchase options, please go to:

http://www.macromedia.com/buy/

Should you have other concerns, please feel free to contact us again.

yeah natron, good choice :thumb:
I too will hopefully be following that route shortly.

"All prior versions of Studio, Dreamweaver, Flash, and Fireworks are now eligible for the upgrade price." - Macromedia

and also FreeHand MX or earlier version, Dreamweaver UltraDev, Dreamweaver/Fireworks Studio, UltraDev/Fireworks Studio, Flash/FreeHand Studio, ColdFusion Studio, JRun Studio (Any Version).
- It's on the site.

I'm just going to buy Flash and save some money.

I don't need Fireworks (Photoshop does the trick). I don't need any of the new functionality of Dreamweaver (I still build websites with tables). And with my CS2 package, I prefer to deliver PDFs instead of Flashpaper ;)

But that's just me...

I'm wondering if they're going to release an educational version after the full has been released. Then you'd probably be able to upgrade from MX or MX 2004 educational.

When I was going to purchase Flash MX 04 Pro it was around that price. I thought it was way too high but its an investment. Look at it this way. If you buy it now when the new version comes out you'll be able to get it for the upgrade price.

Preordered my studio 8 upgrade yesterday :)

Anyone know how they verify that you have an old version of flash/fireworks/dreamweaver if you do that upgrade?
