the top red clock actually uses nothing new for flash 8, but i thought it looked cool, it uses text as a mask over a pattern.

the second one is made from filters from flash 8, the glow, blur, and drop shadow effects.

this is my first expirement, it was fun :)

so i'm also thinking about making parts of my personal site flash8 only, and using a tester to see the version they have and have options for them to download flash 8 to see the new cool stuff. and maybe do this on some of the fun sites i do, have extra stuff for flash 8 player users, but still have the site viewable in lower versions, so this could help promote flash 8 to my users. what does everyone think?

Lots of shadows and blurring and image warping - things often associated with Java applets. Mostly just fancy effects. This version will definitely push Flash in terms of visual effects.

i don't think php is going down. maybe big time corporations aren't going to use it, but i don't think php was ever meant for the big time, it was meant for mid to small size projects.

quote from that site you posted:
While adoption may be slowing, PHP is not going away. With an estimated 2.5m PHP developers and web sites going up on a daily basis that have been built using PHP, the language is firmly ensconced in computing's landscape.

i said it's gonna take over cause i love it, not cause i really think it would :) i also wish macromedia would be compatible with linux, but that'll never happen. i'm an open-source lover, what can i say?

senocular, what's that "spriteanimation" in your own examples? I mean what does it do exactly? :)

It animates a movie clip - the guy walking at the bottom of the screen - by copying pixels from a single bitmap seen enlarged at the top of the screen. The red rectangle seen in the original bitmap is the rectangle used in copying the pixels. After the pixels are copied, a threshold is set to convert the magenta color to a transparency.

Technically, its nothing that couldn't be done before (aside from the magenta to transparency, but you could just as well have used a transparent bitmap) through using masks. That example, however, shows how it can be done without masks and using the new bitmap features.

It doesn't make much sense in just looking at it. It'll be more useful as a source file others can learn from.

It doesn't make much sense no, but it looks like an easy way to make a pixel guy move smoothly instead of moving him manually every frame. ;)

This is very exciting. Many of these effects seem to be on par with after effects or 3d packages

senocular
August 26th, 2005, 08:16 AM
Some of the distortion and "lighting"/blurring effects are much closer to what you would see in After Effects, but we're still not the much further along in terms of 3D ;)

Using the MapDispalcementFilter it is now possible to transform a rectangular movieClip in a trapezoid.
This is one use of this new possibility.

prg9 knows what source code is, winniekoh. prg9 just didn't know which source code you were looking for. You quoted a huge list of URLs. You did not say which file you wanted to get the source code for.

Also, as prg9 said, this post is very old and the URLs in that list may no longer be valid. If you can't find what you want through those URLs, then I doubt anyone here will be able to help you with that.

As Senocular stated, you will need to contact the owner of creativegroundworks.com for the source. Or find one of the many flash clock tutorials online and adapt it to your needs.
