blaze, if you bought it within the last two weeks, I believe you can upgrade for free. Try calling them up.

note that Flash 8 still uses AS 1 and 2. If Flash 9 does come out with a new version of AS, it will be AS 3.

Flash Professional 8
There's Flash Professional 8 and Flash Basic 8, so Flash 8 is a fitting title.

Is pre-order cheaper than buying it when it's released?
senocular
August 11th, 2005, 07:43 AM
Pre-ordering is not necessarily cheaper, though the current price is an introductory price meaning it won't be this cheap forever. This price, however, will remain for sometime beyond the actual release. Pre-ordering will get you a backpack, though (if you're one of the first 888 customers in US or Canada only)

I thought late August because in the movie it said Flash 8 was a Leo. :)
But I can wait until Sept. I might be able to get it for my Birthday!

Flash 8 is going to be very similar to Flash MX 2004. You won't see the same jump in coding style and possibilities from this new release as you did with Flash MX 04 from Flash MX. Still using AS 1 and AS 2 and about the only thing that has changed is the addition of some new functions and properties that let you take advantage of the new features.

I'm glad someone mentioned what Flash 8 entails as I'm struggling to see what all the fuss is about the new version after looking at some of the examples in this forum. I hate to be a party-pooper but I've seen versions of lake effects done in F5, I've seen spinning carousels in F5 and MX, I've seen underwater image masks, various attempts to create smoke, and I've seen lenses galore. And text blurs are ten a penny with Swish! Okay, having a filter might make it easier to do those things but does that justify a brand new Flash release?
Sure, the webcam toys are interesting but that's about it...interesting toys. What about real-life applications when the majority of users won't have access to a webcam?
I would've preferred a new version of Flash that including things that were more useful at the authoring stage, for example better text manipulation such as the ability to get text to follow a circular path. Or a tool that allowed you to feather or smooth the outline of a bitmap would've been nice.

Yes, you will have complete bitmap control including extracting pixel data as well as adding your own to existing or new bitmaps. Other functions include color transformations not possible before (such as desaturation), alpha channel control, color fills and noise generation. Combine that with the available filters and blend modes and you're looking as some exciting effects possible natively through Flash.

I just installed the Flash Player Beta 8, and my website runs a WHOLE lot smoother with this player. Without even publishing it with the new software, just the new player alone is rocking my sock. Anyone else noticing this?

There are new file upload/download capabilities incorrporated into the player, but you will still not have direct access to the hard drive as you do with 3rd party players. Think of it more as a browse option seen in HTML forms, and all interaction is based on user input selecting the file manually, it cannot be done by code alone.

so, you still cant save to hd?
