Whenever I place a transparent gif onto a page in Adobe InDesign, the text on that page appears to lose some weight (and differs from the text on the other pages). What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it please?!

is it a transparency issue or could it be that the viewing image quality is on draft?

go to view>overprint preview, or print it out and have a look.
It may just be the way it appears on screen. Don't mind me asking, but why are you using gifs with Indesign anyways?

No its not the viewing: I published it to a pdf and the text was definitely lighter. dru, I have a background colour and I was adding a map to the page. I want the map's background to be the same so I just removed it in photoshop and exported it as a gif. I previously tried matching the background colour but the colour appeared slightly off when exported to pdf. Any other suggestions?

why arent you using psd's in indesign, they support the file format and the transparency.. or you could be safe and use tif's with transparency.

Do as soulty suggested, place a psd with transparency. That will definitely solve your transparency issues. But I don't see how adding a graphic can change your text. Like I said it could just be a viewing issue. You said you generated a pdf, but keep in mind the built in pdf writer doesn't always render all fonts correctly. It's always best to print to postscript, then use distiller to render a pdf.

Well I just tried that and the same thing happened. It must be a viewing issue I guess. What happens is as soon as the image is placed the text seems to fade away. Thanks though, I'll look into it when I go to the printers tomorrow.

you could upload or send the file over, I could take a look.
If not, good luck tomorrow.:thumb:
