Hello. I'm looking for a group of people with multiplayer flash programing experiance to help on a huge gaming project. This will definatly take some time, but if it goes as planed, it will take multiplayer flash games to a new level of interactivity. The game is a first person shooter with game play similar to the House of the Dead series, but for the multiplayer mode I was thinging about going all-out. Moving freely at will, 360 view, full 3d levels and more! I'm striving to make the online experiance as realistic to xbox live features as possible, including: Headset and or typing comunication, customize able characters (well probably only go as far as color changing), uploadable personal avitars as well as anything you think would be good for the game. I am not experianced at multiplayer programing, but I have made an engine for the single player mode (with the help of blackspirit and smee) and will be making it downloadable to the team. It will needed to be changed (alot) to meet the requirements of the multiplayer version. I have a web site to post the game on to and a web hosting account with mySQL capabilities including php. I don't know much about these either, but they will also be open to the team to edit/create coding. All who wish to join will recive a pm with the adress and password to the private forum we'll be using to exchange ideas, coding, and .fla's. I hope I covered everything, but if you have more questions, please ask.

Hello. I don't have very much experience with coding and none with multiplayer but I would like to help / learn :).
I know some AS - take a look here for a sample. http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185948

Even though I'm a good teacher, I don't know enough to teach you. I guess you can join and help me with designing new weapons and menus.

Your in for a ride if your going to try a 3d multiplayer game in flash.
3d looks extremely hard, I would probably start out with a 2d game, and make that code as modular as possible. If the multiplayer works fine with that, then you can probably port the code to 3d. 3d Flash is extremly limited of course, and it'd be rather hard to make even a doom clone.
If you sure you want to make a 3d game, I'd look more into things like DarkBasic, of something like that....
I wish you luck though :)

I was planing to make it similar to doom, infact that's what the game is based on.
And making the gameplay like doom's was what I was planning to do. I saw it done befor in one of th threds here before when I first found kirupa, but I can't find it now. It probably got deleted.

I know your working on a game of your own, but I would love to have you join the team. You seem like you would be a good addition. Besides you know as much about my engine as I do.

good luck with that project...
do you have anyone who could make a 3d engine for flash what is fast enaugh to create a enjoyable framerate.. even on slower machines than 1GHz... if you don't have one.. then make it before other things :P it's hellofa challenge!
i once did a 3d script and when there were ~900 polygons on the screen then the fps was only 4-5 (my rig is equipped with an AMD athlonXP 3200+) a friends celeron 2.8Ghz did 1fps :S
of course the algorithm i made was quite stupid... someone better at algebra could have done it better/faster... so get a math genius to the team!

Ok there is no way you're going to be able to make an FPS engine in Flash, especially one with low enough latency to be playable. When making a realtime multiplayer game, you've gotta know how to do things like dead reckoning.
Your best bet for your project is learning how to do shockwave 3D(director), it's actually not that hard and it's a LOT of fun once you learn how do to it. Then you can use a Flash back-end(w/ flashcomm or whatever) to handle the multiplayer aspect of it.
That's what Fuel Industries did with www.cowboysandengines.com
It's by far the closest thing I can think of to what you're trying to do.

That was really cool. It shows what people can really do when they try.

Heya, I am indeed too busy to work on something of this scale.
I agree with grandpa, director would be better...I've got a director class at uni this semester, although they don't teach any 3d or game design with it.
BUT I recommend starting with a game design document. The more detail, the better. Start some sketches as well, sketches are good.
While your creating that you can learn some director :D

3D Programming ... it's hard ... you can do a pseudo 3D enviroment like doom in flash but it runs pretty slow even when it's at 320x240 (one of the original screen resolutions for doom and doom2) ... add multiplayer stuff into that ... and you are bound to make computers have a heart attacks
you can also do some simple examples of psuedo 3D ... try looking on the www.levitated.net ... he has some source code and some cool examples of psuedo 3D on the site ...
as far as real 3D ... you can usually make a cube or a something that has less than 15 faces or polygons and have it run fairly well on any machine ... of course this is no where near the amount of polygons that would be suffice to run a FPS game ... i believe quake would have roughly at least 100+ polygons on every frame ... correct me if i'm wrong ... adn tha was the first real 3D FPS ... at least to my knowledge
so my suggestion would be to start looking up programming and programming for 3D engines ... because it will take a long time to build out especially if there is only one programmer on the team ...
hope this helps you get started in the right direction

I'll maybe sound a little mean but I would want to make some light on this matter, as I've seen the actual single player game.
A 3D game engine is far away form what this game is, that is a simple animation of layers, a pseudo 3d animation (you know the effect, layers in front move slower than layers behind). Nothing is random, as the game progreses, so if you are dead and replay, all the animation will folow just the same. It's like an interactive animation, as a matter of fact he wasn't to far with that "House of the Dead" analogy but that was at least 3d.
He is a 14 year old kid eager to learn, but too enthusiastic about this acomplishment so far. He's far away from making a cube in a 3d environment and I think it's a bad thing for him that he dosen't make the difference between what he has now and what a real engine is.
Sorry... I, with this occasion, announce my departure from your team, BUT you'll have my support anytime you encounter troubles and I'm around on the forum ;)

Well, since alot of posts on this subject have been kinda negative with remarks like its too hard or you can't do it. I just want to throw in some good old positive remarks. Good luck with the project and I think you will do fine as long as you keep trying. ;)

Well so far we arn't worried about how hard its gonna be, so far we are waiting for one email form someone before we decide wether we will do flash or director, but the good thing is flash and director communicate easier than flash does with itself
thanks for the postivity (that a word?)
