this one's a little more fun, but unlike the other one it's certainly not one you'd use on a website for a client- think of this one as an endurance race.
i got 8.9 seconds. post your scores.

ok, so i did this on my laptop, which is far better than my desktop, and i got 84. and it slowed my comp down alot for the last 20 seconds or so of it. this may not be very friendly to your comp, so watch out!
if anyone wants to hack into the .fla to make it better, go for it!

the higher your score the better, what it tests for is the speed of your onEnterFrame vs the getTimer()... and onEnterFrame slows down and your computer lags, but getTimer() doesn't. i just made a script that tests for when you slow down past a certain #.
anyone is welcome to check out the script and make suggestions/modifications

4.9 and 5.4 here. This was on Flash Player 8, I'm not sure how much of a difference that makes for the code.

time_txt.text = Math.round(getTimer()/100)/10;
this is what i used for the timer. anyone have a better way to use a timer that gets the tenths of a second?

Are you sure higher numbers are better?
Seems to me lower numbers should be better.

I got 0.1 and then 0.3. Which is weird because if higher numbers are better than that means my computer sucks. But it is a 3 gigahertz Pentium 4 with 1 gigabyte of RAM.

haha this one isn't as good as the other one. i realized this reading through everyone's responses, but i hoped that this thread would just settle into oblivion, which hasn't happened. but here's a quote from my original post:

my other cpu tester is far better: http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185891 so go check out that one. it is also one you can use in your website to shield slow users from your most cpu intensive scripts/animations.
i guess this one was just a "sequel" to a successful expirement, and i guess i had the success of a typical sequel in this version, lol!

4.3 - but my laptop sucks, it must be flash 8, the maths speed is improved hugely on it.

this is completely odd, my lowest is now 1.2 and my highest is 13.8, normally getting around the 2.7 area... flash 8, firefox

try out my other cpu tester, cause this one didn't really work out. if anyone wants to see if they can fix it, go for it. but as it is, it doesn't work right. my other cpu tester is at http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185891 so see what you think of it.

Everybody, read the posts, this tester doesn't work. If you want to look at the source to adjust it, check out my first post.
Otherwise, check out my other cpu tester... http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185891
