Hello everyone,

As some of you may know I run an online clothing company called Take it Back Clothing (http://www.takeitbk.com/clothing). Since our launch about a month ago we have been receiving some great feedback and some respectable sales. Now one of the main goals of our company is to incorporate designers worldwide, and that is why I am here today :thumb:.

We are still a very small company, but have made the decision to expand our clothing line. We are going to be segmenting our shirts into "Street Shirts", "DJ/Music Shirt", and "Female Tee's". We will be adding 1 street shirt (which we have already selected from Rob Hare (http://www.robhare.co.uk)), 2 DJ shirts, and 2 female shirts.

When I first thought of expanding our line I immediately thought of the designers that come to Kirupa. Since I have been posting here I have seen some incredible talent in all aspects of design, so I thought this was the perfect place to begin my search.

Take it Back clothing is offering $30US, A feature on our website (this section will be made with the launch of the new line), The shirt you designed for free, and the chance to be contracted out for our future clothing items. I know this doesn't sound like much right now, but like I said before we are in the middle of expanding our line, and if we like your work we can offer you a lot more down the road. Hopefully we can help further your design career as well as ours.

If you are not female, or don’t have use for a female tee, we will give you one of our already existing products for that aspect of the prize.

Now, what we need: Take it Back Clothing has come here to look for TWO FEMALE TEE DESIGNS. There are really no restrictions, just that the designs you make must be in vector. We would like to keep the colors to 5 and under, but if need be we can up the amount.

Submitting:
To submit your work you can attach a preview of your work to mark@takeitbk.com. Or if that doesn't appeal to you, you can always post your work here. If you have the time also make a preview of what you would like your shirt to look like ie. Color of shirt, and placement of design. Please note that we are not thieves, and will not steal any of your work.

Well I think I have covered everything, if you have any questions or comments feel free to post here or email me!

Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear from you all soon :snug:

WOW I would love to have a go.. is there a deadline date you need them by? And can we submit more than one? Is there a particular theme for us to work to - other than female? Or is it wide open? I know you said colour etc etc is our choice.. but what.. oo I have voices in my head.. lol (sorry I really am not mad.. just having a good day).

Hi snowbabe,

We are planning to launch our new line mid august, so try and have something within 2-3 weeks. Yes you can submit as many designs as you like. I also forgot to mention that we are not going to just sell two female shirts in our existance, so initially if we don't go with your design it is Very possible that we use it a month or so down the road. We would email you and give you an offer for your design and go from there. For right now 2 spots are open.

Design wise we are giving you a clean slate. We are looking for everything and anything. Just go with your own style, we want the shirts to reflect the designers that make them. The shirts we are asking for right now will be sold to females, so obviosuly they will have to appeal to them.

I hope that clears everything up. Let me know if you have any further questions. And good luck!

Ooo some entries!

Seawise: Thanks for your entry. We are going to be looking for some a little more heavy on the graphic side. But I will put it through our panelists and see what they say.

fasterthanlight: Excellent entry! I like the design. Im going to give you a little snip it I have sent out to the people who have emailed me:

"We are looking for everything and anything. The shirts designs I am asking for right now are female shirts, so obviously the t-shirt will have to appeal to females ;). Just go with your style, we want our shirts to reflect the designers that make them."

So what I'm saying is the design doesn't really have to say "Take it Back" or have anything to do with the company. We want the shirts to be reflective of how you design. I still like your entry and will put it in the running for the 2 spots. :) Thanks!

ps. yes that t-shirt layout is perfect.

Hey FTL in your first entry, for the background that looks like a city, how did you achieve that effect in illustrator?

fasterthanlight™
July 24th, 2005, 02:42 PM
Hahah, i didn't use illustrator, don't even have it on this computer. Opened the picture in photoshop, used the cutout filter [Filters>Artistic>Cut Out] and used these settings (see below)
and then I used hue/saturation to turn it pink.

Vexir

Does the "effect" still make it a vector image? Becuase we use vector images for the quality of the print.

July 25th, 2005, 01:37 AM
Pablo : The contest is going to be running until Mid August. Also I received your email and I'm going to be emailing you right after this post.

FTL: Right now I am getting everyone's information and storing their artwork. Come mid august I am going to be calling up my panelists (females of coarse) to rate the designs. The top 2 will win the competition and the award.

The great thing about this competition is that all the designs we receive are not void after we pick the winners. Meaning we may email you down the road with an offer for your already submitted design. We plan on having a whole female collection, but are limited to money at the moment.

I hope that answers your questions, let me know if I can clear anything else up.

imark
July 25th, 2005, 07:00 PM
Oh sorry FTL. We want all the graphics to be in vector, hence the title of the thread. Adobe illustrator is probably your best bet for creating vector images. I think another popular one is Coral Draw?

Hopefully you guys are designing the shirts in some vector program as we can easily transfer them into .ai or .eps files.

Hahaha clearly it has to be in vector. Since thats the case, and i dont have illustrator, I'm going to have to find a work around. Is one of the reasons you want them to be vector because you might need to scale them bigger etc? Cause I could just send you a huge resolution version. Of course, this is all hypothetical because you havent even started judging :P

imark

The main reason for vector images is quality. You get perfect results with vector images, and we like to stress quality in our prints.

Not sure, but taking a guess, as he made it in Photoshop, thats a soft outerglow of the same color as the red paint? Outerglow or drop shadow.

To get the spray paint effect all i did was blur a stroke layer, and then command clicked the layer beneath with all of the circles and deleted the selected shape from the spray paint layer to get that sharp inner edge. I'll try to convert it to a vector, but not unless I win :) extra uneeded work is crappy.

This one would just say "Back" on the back, (in the same font).
I like it because it uses the company name to say something about the proliferation of crappy DJ's happening these days, and maybe even a little about music in general.

Do you think another t-shirt color would make it even better?

I was thinking that myself. I mainly posted that up just to show the design, but certainly over colours would suit it well...even if it meant some of the design colours being changes (in the case of a black t-shirt for example: http://img311.imageshack.us/img311/9452/wildnineteen21iz.jpg).

Very nice Sliker!

In all honesty girls don't wear "t-shirts", they're more like fitted short sleeve tops, I wear them with jeans but no way would you see me in the typical "t-shirt" style.. so unflattering.. maybe you just need to alter the style of top you buy to produce the designs..

WAIT! ME ME ME! :p i'll enter. I have been looking into becoming a shirt designer. I should have some things in a week, though i am busy and have to leave for London in two days. Maybe if i do good here i can get a job working at the site. I'll make designs for you, i have a crapload of ideas. I am a freelance graphics and web designer as well as programmer, but been looking into finding a stationary job, looking for work is too hard :P. I am sorry but i did not have time to complete my t-shirt design, and i am not taking my laptop to london for both personal and security reasons. I would like it if you could wait for me, but i understand if people want this competition to end. I would be interested in making t-shirt designs for you in the future though, and i have quite a few nice ideas for the female tee's. I will be back from london in exactly 7 days. We can talk then.

Illehalx17 Well I was hoping to end the contest before my partner goes away to Europe himself. Just so we can confirm everything with the panelists choices. I may be able to give a few days...but we want to get these shirts going! :).

Fortunately our shirts don't stop here. We are looking for perpetual life, so we are always looking for designers to submit their work. Whether it be female shirts, male shirts, DJ shirts, political shirts, ETC. This contest was made to spark some interest with some designers and get two really cool female shirts to start it off right.

Feel free (for all the designers) to keep submitting t-shirts to us. We want our clothing line to be as unique as possible. The best way to achieve that is to have everyone out there help contribute. If we like your work we'll pay you and get your shirt(s) on the site!

I think that should clear everything up. Let me know if anyone has some more questions. Thanks :)

I'm not sure if any of these actually qualify as "designs" - basically shirts 2-4 are just themes around common warning signs. I suspect the idea's probably been done a thousand times, and quite possibly doesn't appeal to feminine sensibilities anyway, but I thought I'd throw them into the ring and see what people thought :D

The themes could be expanded, e.g.

DANGER! Ear Protection Required :ponder:
CAUTION! Keep Out
CAUTION! Avoid Skin Contact
DANGER! This Area Is Closed Off
CAUTION! Watch Your Step
etc, etc.

Hey Vexir:

Sorry :( It's hard for me to share source files cause of my custom brushes. Plus it's a PSD file as of now. I save path's to tranfer to Illustrator if picked.

Did you have a doubt on the illustration? I dont mind swapping techniques.

It's always good to have a fun contest like this, as if you don't win you don't feel as if you've spent hours upon hours of bordem to get nothing from it.

Good luck to everyone who has entered. There are some awesome entries, and I certainly wouldn't like to be the one picking the winners!

Hey daniel you should have put that in my thread at the top called "Protect Yourself". That is very good advice. But actually posting in someones thread is presumptuous and could be called malicious. I know you meant well, but you got to thnk how that makes this company look.

Congratz to the winners. Sorry for not getting back mark. I had a couple designs, but i didn't submit them. Why you ask? Well i was browsing a freelance forum and i found a deal with a different T-shirt company to make t-shirt designs and you get $500USD per design there. I think this contest may have been a little underpaying. . .

imark
August 26th, 2005, 06:25 PM
It's all I could offer at the moment. If I could pay the designers more I would. Everyone who submitted the designs knew what they were getting into. I'm sure there were lots of people who didn't submit designs because of it.

I could have also designed the shirts myself and not payed anyone, but I want TIB to grow with the community. Every t-shirt company doesn't start out with $50,000 in the bank :o
