hi kirupuians
can you all take a peek at the attached and let me know what you think...
i know its along the lines of 2d.net but the main focus of this design is my own 'hacked style' so the finnished project should be more 'db' than '2d..'
http://www.thedaveyb.co.uk/chrome-hacked.gif
Basically looking for some feedback and suggestions so that it doesnt become another 2d style rip off....

Very cool, I would color the scrollbar though, so it matches the site design.

This is what I use to color scrollbars:
the CSS file:
BODY, P, UL, LI, FORM, INPUT
{scrollbar-track-color:#D8C594;scrollbar-highlight-color:#F6EED7;scrollbar-face-color:#D8C594;scrollbar-arrow-color:#A37E30;scrollbar-3dlight-color:#D8C594;scrollbar-darkshadow-color:#D8C594;scrollbar-shadow-color:#D8C594;}
Insert in your HTML this (above /head):
<LINK REL="stylesheet" TYPE="text/css" HREF="yourfile.css">

I like the design, its good.
But things id change are-
1) the font im not keen personally id use a more technical looking one.
2) the scroll bar totally ruins it. I gather your intending changing though so thats cool.
Why dont you just create a skin for the component (im assuming its a component) in PS ??

Well, not bad. The one thing, which definatelly I don't like, is the scroller. Remove it, or make it of any other color. Also, looking forward to see the content and the result.

cant argue with the scroller.. . leaves me with 2 options content in flash or just bite the bullet and have the scroller around the iframe..........
i think this is what you call 'cache 22' hehe
Components in PS - assuming you mean create a skin for a flash component then yes thats a thought.. altho PS is not my package of choice... 'Fireworks MX - A Web Designers Tool' - nothing personal!!
The font i quite like that way as the hacked style is nothing obvious but more an algimation of styles from my favourite designers and sites.. 2d.net, moluv then combine that with my interests.. punk rock metal... etc.. and you have the hacked style... a technical font i think would just leave me with another 2d ripoff...

Yeah fair point about the font i guess.
As for Fireworrks - VS - PS well i think though Fireworks is more suited to making vector graphics, PS can do all that if you just remove the anti-aliasing options.
But as you say its a personal preference issue, their both good.
Just thought id stick up for us PS users... :beer:

strange as i thought the majority would be PS users and us fireworks buds the minority.... i kinda started designing sites in 2000 with minimum design experience and only really used fireworks as my package ( as well as flash etc...) i think in that whole time i have opened photoshop say less than 20 times!?... so cant even say its preference really more thats just how i have learnt..... PS just frustrates me... as i do think its more geared towards 'graphic designers' with a print background where as im a 'web designer' with a pure web background.....

The scrollbar KILLS it dude.. the border is very nice :) Looks like ink splattered. I'd say the nav bar was a bit too tall but thats just me :) Nice job.

<style type="text/css">
body, html {
scrollbar-arrow-color: yellow;
scrollbar-base-color: black;
scrollbar-dark-shadow-color: C9C9C9;
scrollbar-track-color: C6C6C6;
scrollbar-face-color: 000000;
scrollbar-shadow-color: F9F9F9;
scrollbar-highlight-color: F6F6F6;
scrollbar-3d-light-color: black;
}
</style>

im thinking including a few more nav options and the top will all be animated eventually so should look abit better.... appreciate the fact it kinda looks stale as it is....
