Hey everyone,
What would I need to do in order to use Remote Desktop between two Windows XP Professional computers running on a home network. I have Remote Desktop enabled on both comps, but when I run "Remote Desktop Connection", I can't find my computer in my network.
Do I need to setup a VPN between the computers prior to using it? If so, what IP address would I use? 192.168.1.x where x is the number my router provides for the other computer?
Thanks!
Kirupa

I'd use VNC, it's quick and easy.

I've used VNC, but do you know how to get Remote Desktop to work? I want to give it a shot, for it's the main reason I upgraded from XP Home to Pro :P

Google does wonders my man.

Personally, I disable it right off the bat, for security reasons.

even though you've solved the problem, just thought i'd let you know:
yea, you would use 192.168.1.x (or whatever your router assigns the other computer). it would work without the VPN. that's how i do it :)
remote desktop is useful...I sometimes even use it from a computer lab in school to access my comp back in my dorm :P

vexir - with Home you can receive incoming connections, but I don't think you can initiate connections with other comps. You can install the Remote Desktop Client on 9x and even NT ;)

Kirupa if your pcs are in the same network you can access them by their computer name through start>run just type in the pcs name works great.
ie: \\serverName
