Hello all.
I am a first time time poster her though i have been a frequent visitor.
I'm a total noob in flash and i have learned a lot from reading and working with the tutorials on this site - thank you.
My site is nearing completion so i would appreciate any feedback. Its my first work in flash so dont expect the world. I'm a professional actor not a programmer ;)
My site just needs to be a relatively simple presentation of myself where a caster or director and like can see couple of pictures and get in touch with me.
It isn't tranlated to english yet as i would like to get some first impressions first :) ... bear with me - it should be pretty self-evident what is what.
A couple of small issues: for some reason it runs much slower (for me at least) in a browser window than in the player. Even when running it from the HD. Framerate is set at 60 but it seems more like 20 when in a browser.
...i also have a problem with my mailform removing all the carriage-returns so that all mails come as one line of text.... hard to read. Might be a PHP problem though.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated - thank you

Welcome and nice job for your first time.
I not a big fan of the way your intro photo comes together, the mouse follow is a little annoying. You have some nice photo's I would make them fill up more space in the design and make them a focus point along with a nice fade. I would also explore more button options.
Heres a site that has a simple clean design like yours.

As far as the programming goes, nice job everythings works.....
Cheers

OKay i got it this time.
I think its a good start, if that the look u are going for.
Theres a couple of things though...
1) More colors. I dont know but it just feels a little too plain ATM. Maybe at least 1 other color.
2) Vary the weight and size of the fonts some more. ALl the text is same size so its hard to know whats most important.
3) You need a logo or header. Even if it is just a simple text treatment up in the top-right corner, or repeated in the background.
You want your visitors to know where they are and see your name clearly. But not in the "©" section. Make that section smaller.
4) You should have your picture stay up longer on the main page. Your an actor right? So im sure you have many pics.
I dont think you really need it to be 60 fps. you should be okay with a 24 or around there.
Thats all i have for now. Oh, maybe some sounds and BG music. just a small loop. you dont want to add to the DL time.

Thank you both...
Good points both of you.
I'm not sure i'm a big fan of the intro picture either - it was just that i had used the bar-code theme a couple of times so i just had a quick go at what i could do with that and a picture. more an afterthougt really. I expexct i will make something better soon.
I will definately look into your suggestions. Especially on making it a bit clearer what is buttons and what is just text. You are not the first ones to point that out today :)
Some simple sounds might also help as you suggest.

The mouse follower thingy gets to me. Maybe you could isolate it so that the brackets only follow the mouse when they are around the links. Everything else looks pretty good though. :hr:

for a first try that is very good :) there quite a bit to improve on though but that comes with the territory.
Not that kean on the mouse trail thingy.

GhostDog,
On the site I sent you, have a look at the nav buttons when you roll over them, that what I meant by exploring other button options. You current buttons have no pop to them. If you notice the site I sent you how nice the effect is on the buttons. It really simple to make.
Good luck

it's a fresh idea, but I think it wont be popular for your clients or regular visitors ;)

Hey - lots of replys since i last checked. Thanks
I guess the mousefollow thing is something you either love or hate... I like it and it took a long time to get it to work on externally loaded swf's. Now they are there to stay... for a while at least.
To PMF... i agree on the mouse over thing. Most of my buttons do a slow fade from grey to black but i need something more pronounced. Its next on my list.
I have in the meantime done a little update so there now is transittions between the different pages. I like the effect myself.
Thanks for all the comments
