Design Feedback Pls

Hey Kirupa Forums!

I just finished the bulk of the design of my Portfolio/Studio site and would like some feedback/constructive criticisms for improvement.

The only problem I have with that site is the very low quality of the background image. Otherwise it's very nice. Smooth and stylish. Nice work. I love the transitions. :thumb:

I pretty much like your site!
a small thing that annoyed me was that the link-text changes with mouseover.
when i surf i always point the mouse where i look... (i know it's useless.. but i guess a lot of people do like that) so when i move the mouse over a link in the menu i have to wait the funky-text-changing to read it.

really really like the animation and transitions, slick!
not sure about the background, i'd try a flat colour with some texture lines running diagonally!!!

One other thing why not load the news section automatically at the start [or one of the sections] so the content area isn’t blank to begin?

Hey really nice site.

Love the logo. Does it do its little animation while the pages are loading? I thought i noticed it spin more times on portfolio than all the others.. maybe i just clicked twice.

The colors are good too.

Thats the track from the swordfish album no? I love the track though.

Thanks for the feedback. Btw, the reason for the low quality of th bkg is the highlight the crispness of the interface by contrast.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I really like your suggestion about having the news section start out automatically. I might use that for the final version. I am working on the home section though which is why it's blank right now.

Whoa. That's a lot of capsules. Thanks for the info cameron. I registered my domain about 3 years ago and have been designing as Capsule Studios since. I looked at these existing companies and they have a totally different vibe going on so I'm not really worried. I think that Capsule Studios has something unique to offer and I think that 'we can all just get along'.

You've really got a good eye and ear! Yes, the capsule logo does it's animation while the pages are loading and you're dead-on about the swordfish album track. I plan to add an mp3 player/soundtrack controller to show all the info about the track, plus probably other music to choose from.

I love the layout, transitions and colours...I love the buttons, but the olny thing with them is that when you mouse over them, it takes a little too long to form the word again.
But i don't see that being a big problem.

Really nice looking site, but i must say i also hate the background image.
Either have a flat colour or something simple like scanlines which wont detract from your site.

As for the site i have two issues -
1) I hated having to wait for the soundtrack to load i was gonna kill it as sonn as i entered anyway as i was listening to some tunes. So seemed pointless waiting for it to load.
Maybe have an option to skip soundtrack loading.
2) I know its already been mentioned but those button text changes really annoyed me.

Other than that really nice job, good quality all round.

what i like:
1) smooth animations & great transitions
2) unique overall design
3) great choice of site colours

what i don't like:
1) change the background, it looks horrendous(sp?) and takes the attention away from the main site. I think an all black background or something like "ave" mentioned with scan lines.
2) load the soundtrack seperatly after the site has loaded.
3) the "Capsule Studios" text and logo seem to blurred, sharpen it up a bit.

Thanks for the feedback. Good points on the soundtrack issue. I can see how some people would already be listening to tunes and wouldn't want to listen to the site audio at all. I'm working on getting the soundtrack to load/stream faster instead of loading the whole track.
