So *that's* what it tell you to do when you click the 'click here to find out why you are experiencing slow transfer rates' thing :P
Yeah... I'd be interested in an answer, too :D

Do you have a software or hardware firewall? such as a router

yeah I have a linksys router. I 'think' I've port forwarded the correct msn ports but still slow transfers :-/

Hehe, port forwarding/transfers/opening means you open the gateways on your router that the file-transfer sub-app or whatever it is uses to transfer data in and out of your network! Usually to find these ports I google 'msn file transfer ports' or something like that. For MSN File transfer the ports are:
6891-6900
To be safe I'd open both UDP and TCP. Also, an issue a lot of my friends have, remember to check the enabled button. :)
I can't really help you on configuring your router specifically, but I know that for Linksys routers you need to go to 192.168.1.1 in your browser, login to the configuration site, and then go to Gaming/Applications or some such tab like that and open the ports. Shouldn't be too hard to find.
Post a screenshot of the page where you open ports if it doesn't work.
2. Also make sure you have disabled any software firewalls (mcafee, the windows firewall, even though this should work, zonealarm etcetc) and make sure the reciever also has his ports open and firewalls disabled.

I managed to forward the ports that you gave me - but still a bit slow :-/ I've been reading some stuff on google and they say that SOCKS is good for this stuff?? Do you happen to know anything about it? Thanks!

Yeah, they keep your feet warm in the winter.
:trout:
Otherwise, I've never heard of SOCK having to do with transfering files. Usually it all depends on port forwarding and upload speed of the trasferer.

MSN file transfers actually pass through the Microsoft server before being relayed to the recipient (rather than DCC or suchlike), so there'll always be a lag :(

Sigh, and I loved MSN so.. 7.0 is great except for the file transfer.. I love how it even detects the song if you're playing it with iTunes.. Sadly I sacrificed its wonderful pig-mooning (litteraly) functionality for Trillian 3.0...
I dont know why really, but I did. :P

Damn, Microsoft never makes anything perfect do they :-/ Anyhow thanks for the replies I'll just have to live with slow transfers...
And REEF, Im surprised you noticed :P I stopped doing flash temporarily - hopefully I still remember how to code and such..

Hi!
The ports statted above...
Its from one all the way to the other! Open them in UDP and TCP just to make it simpler!
The problem might be due to the other guys connection also!
Around here there has been a rumour that the 2 main companies offering net connections make the streams between there 2 lines REALLY slow...
So people choose one instead of the other!
The speed show on most packages is download only, little is mentioned about upload if anything at all!
Getting info on that to check if u aren't getting less than ur suposed too is a very good idea!
