Go for 400. thats probably closest. from what i've been reading its closest to 400. And most likely MS will make it a high number so 400 is probably it.

Bill Gates has said it should be about $300, with PS3 being atleast $400 - $500 on it's release. The sony guys confirmed this when they were talking about the "they'll pay anything to get one" stuff.

300 is reasonable. 400+ is rediculous.

I think the Xbox 360 will be 300 dollars because the Xbox was. I sometimes think, "what if they priced it 300 because the Xbox was the first console made by Micrsoft?". Also the ps2 was 300 when it came out on its release. So yeah, I think that the Xbox 360 will be 300 dollars.

They should charge it $360. Just for kicks.

They're always going to be $300. They always were, and always will be. Before every single consol release they say that it is going to be four hundred, but they always charge three hundred. Just look at the psp, they said that it would be $400 or higher. Look at it now, it's $250, and it's going to be cheaper.

That's a good idea. And that's only $60 more, still cheap-ish in comparison to the PS3 and there would be a much bigger profit.

Official Xbox 360 prices
LEIPZIG, Germany (Reuters) - Microsoft's (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) new Xbox 360 game console will sell for $299 in the United States and will be launched simultaneously in the U.S., Japan and Europe "in plenty of time for the Christmas market," European home and entertainment head Chris Lewis said.

Microsoft, which will beat rivals Sony (6758.T) and Nintendo Co. Ltd (7974.OS) to get its next-generation console to market, said on Wednesday the Xbox 360 would sell for 299 euros in Europe and 209 pounds in Britain.

Including accessories such as wireless controllers, detachable hard drives and headsets, the prices would be $399, 399 euros and 279.99 pounds, Lewis told journalists at Europe's biggest computer games fair in Leipzig, Germany.

The company added that it would reveal pricing for the Japanese market at the Tokyo games fair next month.

Microsoft has yet to give an exact date for the launch, but it is widely expected to be in November -- before December's Christmas holidays and well ahead of Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Revolution, which are due to go on sale next year.

Sony still has two-thirds of the games console market with its PlayStation 2, which Microsoft partly ascribes to the fact it launched its first Xbox only a year after the launch of PlayStation 2 in 2000 -- a mistake it does not intend to repeat.

"Our competition is fierce. It's a non-trivial matter," Lewis told Reuters in an interview.

With a new, streamlined design and far better picture definition, Microsoft hopes to attract a far wider audience than just the hardcore gamers who primarily bought the first Xbox.

The console will also be able to play music and store video and photographs -- although it will not have an independent Internet connection.

"It's a fully connected digital experience," said Lewis, appealing to an ideal of convergence of technologies in the home that is much vaunted by the industry but has yet to become a reality for the vast majority of consumers.

Lewis declined to give any sales targets for the Xbox 360 or to say how many would be available at launch.

However, he said Microsoft's steep learning curve with the original Xbox -- which has prompted much negative feedback since its launch in 2001 -- would stand it in good stead.

"We have to pinch ourselves sometimes when we realize how far we've come in such a short time," he said.

Microsoft's gamble on the Xbox has cost it $1 billion annually in sunk costs so far. Up till now, around 22 million Xboxes have been sold -- giving the company around one-sixth of the installed base of games consoles globally. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050817/tc_nm/microsoft_dc

$400. it is then :D ... still, I gotta admit that having a version (Xbox Core) without a HD is disappointing. Who's gonna pay $100 for 20Gig's?

MS should just scrap the Core version...

Yeah, that is what really sold me on the original Xbox was that I didn't have to buy a bunch of memory cards that my kids could lose. They must be planning memeory cards to save games if some Xboxs won't have HDs. That sucks.

**edit - nope looks like you just will not be able to save unless you have the HD http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050817/ap_on_hi_te/microsoft_xbox

wow a xbox with no HD why bother. I still have got no where near the capacity on my first XBOX. I hope this one is not as heavy as the old one. Speaking of heavy, did anyone ever peep the warning notice on the xbox? Telling you not to store it up high, and the illustration shows some child getting smashed by the xbox. Why would you produce something that heavy.......I remember when I left target with mine they were triple bagging them because the bags were ripping and folks were droppin their x-boxes.

I'm just going to get the core for 300 bucks, I don't really care whether I have a HDD or not, I can just use a memory card. Its not like I'll be storing stuff on the HDD except saved games anyway, so why pay an extra 100.

And by the way BlindLizard, go to the XBOX site the newest parts list says you can buy a 64 MB memory key for 40 bucks a pop.

Its much better value just to get the HDD of course... lol

But here is my problem. I have 3 kids (7, 4 and 2). They can lose their shoes while wearing them. If I shell out $40 for a memory card, they will lose it in days. That was why I liked the first Xbox, no parts to lose. Except those stupid controler cables that seperate at the end. Does anyone one know why those things seperate? Just since we have been in the RV since April, they have lost all but 1 controler cable end. We had 6 controls (4 cabled and 2 wireless).

Well I only have a sister who'se not going to be allowed to touch my 360 anyway (I'll give her my gamecube or something) so I think I'm good on the losing parts thing.

DDD

Actually yeah.....It is because the xbox is so damn heavy and if someone ignores the warning not to place it in high places and does so anyway. And someone trips over the cord, it will just disconnect and not send someones child to the hospital with head trauma or a severly smashed foot. I actually wish all consoles did that. My kids have dropped their game cube countless times doing that precise thing.

Buy why not just make the connection to the Xbox disconnect? This way the controler parts all stay together.

I don't have the problem of the Xbox falling though because I have a portable TV/DVD combo (to put in the car) and I strapped the Xbox to the top of it. This way when we travel, I just uplug from the wall, and carry the thing to the car or RV and strap the TV in. It is super heavy though. The TV weighs about what a 17in CRT monitor wieghs, plus the 1000lbs xbox.

Believe me you dont want that. I broke 2 ps2's that way. The way the ports are made on the ps2 are extremely stupid. The male portion of the connector actually is on the console so if it is pulled at a weird angle (like tripping over the cord). Say bye bye to that port. Which means new ps2 or a extremely ghetto one. The second time around I actually complained to Sony and got a new one from them. They actually admitted it was a design flaw, and since I brought it not too long ago they sent me a new one. Its better to replace the controller than the system.

lol...I was off topic we were talking about the xbox....lol...I blurt random blabber sometimes...But the ps2 ports suck

I have a few problems with the XBox. First is that it is huge and heavy and ugly. Second, the controllers are gigantic. At least they made a smaller one that wasn't that bad. Third, on a lot of the earlier models, they put in crappy hard drives and my XBox freezes periodically. And that thing is loud to. But I have to say, despite of all that, it was my favourite system because of XBL. Multi-player is the best part of any game.

As for the controller cords, it never really bothered me. That's probally becausxe I have only one and it's at floor level. But I know that my cousins lost that little attachment almost every day. They finally just taped them together. I wasn't to fond of their design until I heard DDD's testimony. Now I don't know what to believe.

I was thinking about this, and Microsoft does make a point (I think so anyway): the 'casual' gamer doesn't care about a harddrive, headset, or even wireless controllers. Which is the reason for the Xbox Core System.

Now, for those of you who do care (like myself), spend the extra hundred and get all that stuff. Getting the 'high-end' version is a good deal because MS is overpricing the individual accessories. If you were to buy the Core System and then buy the HD, headset, etc., individually you would end up spending more than $400.

Wait, what? This is now a trip-cord thread? :cantlook:

I think I'll be getting one I'd pay the extra $100 bucks becuase it makes having the saved games all in one spot no losing memory sticks HATED memory sticks since thier inception really stupid idea. I just hope the games kick!!! I'll be looking forward to Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 3 Halo 3 of course and a couple others but seriously I wont be one of the first to get one maybe spring next year or so when the PS 3 comes out and MS drops the price not that it will be a major deal on the price anyways I'm just going to wait until the games I want are out

Ummm for those of you that dont know MS bought Rare, and as for the $400.00 version ill wait till it goes down in price im not gonna spend $300.00 on half a system but at least theyre giving you, 1 the dvd playback function which they charged you like 40 bucks on XBOX (which you can get for free if you softmod or chip it btw, not only that but you can watch divx as well :thumb:), 2 a headset i jsut spent 30 bucks on a new headset to play online, and finally the HD on which to store "game saves" but my intention is not to do just that .

Now unless they have an option to attach a hd to the low end version then thats another story cause ill stick in a 300gb HDD instead of a 20gb HDD, after it gets hacked obviously

the hdd alone will cost ya 100 if purchased separately, so at 400 i think its "fair" price considering the extras you get i also think theyll give you a 1 year subscription to live gold or silver account not sure on this, but if tis true its a pretty good deal.
