Hi,
I'm making a game, a tile based game. I make that in flash mx, and i don't like the results in speed, it goes slow, bicouse the map is large. Now... I heard about Director, and his good manage of images... Is that true?

For making games... it is better to learn Lingo and making with the Director?

PD: I'm installing rigth now the Director on my PC... jeje.

OK.

director will give you alot more speed.
its harder to work with.
and lingo sucks.... imo
it also gives you control over each pixel

man, it think it would be easier to just optimise the hell out of your current script then learn a new language. I've had limited contact with director back in my early flash days and just never got why it was better than flash at what I needed and thus I never tried to learn it and just focused on flash and it seems that flash has better features and a hell of a lot more support than director gets. but I feel that if you really went over your code and optimised it it would run smooth in flash... hell i've seen huge tile based games run rather smooth under flash.

director also has IO support, while flash does not, 3d support, and the best X-tras

with X-tras you can extend director to anything possible by a programming a few C libraries, which you cannot do with flash. Most of these make it better for projectors.

but IMO flash is much much better, and will be the better tool for the job 90% of the time.

but it is always good to expand your horizons, expecially when job hunting.

Yeah definitely do it in Flash. I have fairly extensive experience with both Flash and Director, and I can tell you that Director only worth using if you're doing something that Flash can't do (ie. 3D). The fact that the shockwave plugin has much lower browser penetration also doesn't help. What you're trying to do is definitely doable in Flash, but you might have to comprimise/adapt to Flash's capabilities. You'll be thankful you did.

The HELL yeah that my code is optimized!!!!!!
mabie is my computer that is slow... thats it.

Anyway, I have read a tutorial that said that vector images make flash go slooowww... I will have to expor all as PNG or something like that.
