All of you guys who've bought Battlefield, we should hop on a server. My name is Drakz online. Post here if you'd like to play.

http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetbattlefield/bf2autoloader.msi

grab that tool and we'll be able to hop onto servers a little easier.

I'm in there like swim wear dudes...

Problem right now is, I uninstalled the game last night because I had updated to the crap patch that they released and when I went to install it again... I kept getting an error with the main .exe file.

I'm not real happy right now with EA.

Hey that would be cool. Too bad they are taking so long for their patch fix!

I might be setting up a website in the next couple days for a BF2 clan. I've also been thinking a lot about starting a mod. I'm going to start school at a new university this fall for game development, and having as much experience as possible is going to help for when it comes time to graduate. If any of you would be interested in working on that too, let me know.

Depending on what type of mod you do, I might be able to help you. I won't be able to be too commited, but hopefully I could do a bit of the modeling in 3ds max 7. By the way, why do we need that tool? Do you have any idea what you are going to make you mod on?

ps. Please no star wars ones or similar things. People who buy the game are looking for realism imbeded in either historical or current battles, though it would be your choice because it would your mod :).

In reference to the mod I'm doing, I've drawn up some plans. This is probobly a couple weeks off, but I'll make it slightly more official once I've put up a website and a workflow for "what needs doing". It's going to come between either a Mad Max / Fallout style mod, or a Wild West mod. There is already a post-apocalyptic mod called "Battlefield: Apocalypse", but I've got some original ideas. I think those types of games would fit very well into the battlefield engine too.

I've done enough mods to know that I can't recruit people and just expect things to work. That's why I'll most likely get most of the grunt work done by myself, but artists are going to be neccessary. Maya or Max isn't my specialty, so anyone who can pump out some models and animations will be in high demand. I've done quite a bit of skinning and texturing, so I should be mostly fine there.

Also, the mod tools for BF2 haven't yet been released. There are several preview articles involving them (and how good they're supposed to be), but I still would like to dig into some design documents before that hits. An editor is kinda useless unless you've got some content.

Both are good ideas. I think that the wild west idea would be more original and could work wonderfully with the BF2 engine. The only apparent dilemma with this theme would be that 64 outlaws dueling each other might be a bit weird, but if there was enough attention to detail incorporated in the maps, it could go unnoticed.

When you mentioned a fallout style mod, do you mean something like half-life? That would be cool, but that wouldn't be my preferance. I think more people would play the fallout mod.

Hopefully I can be of some assistance!

ps: I currently don't have anything great to show for my 3d modeling talents, most likely because my texturing skills are not that great, but if you are good at texturing that should help.

I think the mod is a great idea. I think the wild west mod would be the best :) I live in a "western" town so I could get some textures and ideas. It'd be cool, you could have like a parchment map, trains, small wild west towns, outlaw outposts, law enforcement defending the town with outlaws trying to take it over. I think it has a lot of potential. A kirupa community mod would be cool.

I can't be too devoted but things I could help with are:

Texturing
Modeling
And I'd love to make a nice website for that type of mod. :)

I'm thinkin horses, and carriages, and all the like too. Maybe some indians? NOW it gets interesting. I'll start workin off that idea! If you guys want, continue to post ideas and such. I'd like to incorporate things like bountys (prices on the heads of high killing players), supply runs (moving wagons from point to point to "restock" supplies, giving the player more tickets. Bandits would move in on them to hijack the supplies). Sherrifs could be awesome duelers, and abel to duel weild pistols.

I think this mod is moving in a positive direction! I have been thinking that horses would take a lot of IK work and would be Really hard to get working and looking right. I absolutely love the idea of bounties!

It would be ideal for some of the KirupaForum members to make a mod, it would come out beautifully, unlike a ton of other mods. However, a strong, popular idea would have to be put into place and much more.

a strong, popular idea
Do you have any ideas to this effect?

Nope, I don't even have the game. I'm just saying it's a good idea. :)

Probably not. The resources for the game are a lot less so it's going to be pretty tricky to find out where to start. Is there an SDK out yet?

I think we should split this thread. 1/2 is making a mod, and 1/2 is the clan. Lets make a signup thread with basic info.

Nothing beats old schools war games like Dod or race battles like AvP. Though western mods are great. In fact I like western stuff like cowboys more then that futuristic crap. But thats just me. The post-apocalyptic mod called "Battlefield: Apocalypse" sounds good though.
