Anyone know when Dell, or other brands will be rollen out more 64-bit laptop. I've seen a couple but they tend to be the lower end models. I thought they would have become more common, I take intel doesn't have one yet.

Cheers

Right now from what I remember reading, AMD has the 64-bit, but Intel has yet to roll one out.

Since Dell deals only with Intel (I think right?), you wont see a 64bit lappy until Intel launches one.

Intel MUST launch one for 2006 though, when Apple products start to "make the switch" because Tiger is currently 64 bit compatable, so who wants to go back to 32? Not I...

I'm not entirely sure Windows and software support 64bit architecture yet so I wonder if the switch is going to br that soon

I was told that it will take two years before Apple switches over to Intel. So they will not roll out there 64-bit pb for some time.

the only 64 bit laptops available are AMD based since Intel hasnt even made a 64-bit version processor for desktops only for workstations so far, and theirs also a 64 bit version of windows although you can use the current 32 bit version on a 64 bit processor since AMD's processor is capable of running both 32 and 64 bit appz.

I think Intel does have 64-bit support via their 6XX series for desktops, but they don't have any for laptops. You might find somebody like Alienware using Intel's desktop P4 6XX series chips in laptops, but you won't like the weight or the fan noise from them. Windows XP x64 supports 64-bit processors also, but the driver support for it is still lacking ;)

Matters what program the change isnt going to be instant for Microsoft games will still be 32 bit for a while. But i think software will change over gradually.
But it will be for Macs probably.

Kirupa,

Your in Boston???? I live in somerville!!!

If he goes to MIT where else would he live? (Other than home in Alabama)

Hopefully most new games will support 64 bit processing soon.

Yeah, we're looking at a 2007 full Macintel conversion, but starting June 2006.

You have a wait unless Intel will go gold with it faster, which is hopefully going to happen, no one wants an x64 chip thats BRAND new, or at least I dont.
