View Full Version : web design battle!

Alright, there doesn't look to have been a web design battle for a while, excepting that "worst web site" one and the one that some guy stuck up to get us to redesign his web site so I thought I'd start one up.
Challenge is SMALL! You've got to build a web site template (don't worry about the text - just use the link to the filler text so everyone is starting with the same content), images and all, in less than 32k (why 32k? I'm 32, you see). So you've got a bit of scope but not too much. The site has to be 100% XHTML 1.1 compliant, as goes with any CSS you might choose to use.
The theme is: a site for an ice cream manufacturer (your choice of name!) as it's summer (where I am anyway) and dead hot, and it's the only thing that's keeping me cool.
Any other questions? The body text that EVERYONE has to use can be found at

Cheers,
Welly

you should post what navigation options you want. also, since it's for an ice cream place, you might want to post a small menu or something that people could include.

Sorry, been away all weekend! Lets have a 2 week deadline. You can use flash, or anything you want, as long as you have a 100% compliant site and it's under 32k :)
Bwh, you're right.. regarding the navigation options. Lets have an "about us", "products", "recipes", "nutrional information" (everyone knows ice cream is nutrional) and a "home" button. You can change the titles to something more interesting, but lets go with those.

Can we use includes for .css and .js and not count those in the filesize :D

we should probably just be building a homepage (not subpages). we'll get more people involved that way. if anyone disagrees, let me know. but for now, this is what we have:
WEB TEMPLATE BATTLE
Deadline: SUNDAY, JULY 10, 12PM EST.
Filetypes: primarily HTML. images and flash can be used within the page.
Filesize: everything <32kb in total
Compliance: must be w3c compliant css (http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/) and xhtml (transitional) (http://validator.w3.org/)
Client type: ice cream manufacturer
Navigation options: home, about us, products, recipes, nutritional information

morse, you can! and no, you can't :) Everything has to fit in 32k :)
bwh, I think that seems reasonable! just a home page then.

I have an idea for the name of the company first of all - ok it should be "musical scoop" firstly we have a theme with music, secondly, scoop means placing a spoon into icecream etc and pulling it out - it also means breaking news. Ok combine this with music and we have some great icecreams, jimi Hendrix hot chocolate fudge icecream, slimshader strawberry suprise, Alice Cooper coffee and toffee icecream delight.
Another crap idea i had was to think of two great things that remind us all of itally = icecream of course, and the mafia - people like al capone. Combine these two in a website and we are laughing - or maybe not :(
Now then let me ask this - am i talking rubbish or what? I am on my seventh can of grolsh beer - but it would be nice to know :)
