Dell Inspiron 9300:http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_9300?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

Fully configured with a UXGA screen and the GF6800 card + 1GB of Ram, you probably will still be under $2000 ;)

You can find coupon codes to lower costs more here: http://www.notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104

As far as I know, they have fixed that issue. Dell changed suppliers for the LCD panels, and I haven't read about any display issues with the current batch of 9300's.

I learned a lot about that from the 9300 / XPS 2 forum here: http://www.notebookforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=153 You may want to post there for information from current 9300 owners about what their experience with it.

DO NOT BUY A GATEWAY!!!! for the love of christ please, Mine is an M675 and its been in the repair shop (gateways under warranty) 3 times because the screen died! finally ythis last time they replaced the whole screen about time too!!!! I have had the motherboard replaced along with the modem and video card as well keep in mind its less than a year old its a descent laptop other than that but I think quailty assurance is at an all time low there my pops has one just like mine and his runs fine never had an issue.

Well if you want a mobile processor dont expect a power computer, the only power you will get from a mobile processor is the saving of battery power.

Grinchs Lappy is a steal i would get one if i was you cheap, reliable and powerfull nice combo there.

Good luck

yeah, what everyone says get a labtop that will fufill your needs. such as enough processing power, enough ram, etc. just make sure the hardware and os meets your needs. but my preference for a labtop would be a powerbook. =D.

I would choose an ASUS one at www.asus.com , that's if your not an Apple crazed fan.

i didnt say that iBooks are 17 inches, i was respondin to the reply about a Powerbook

im not an apple fan, and MOBILE processor doesn't mean it's not enough power, you can do crazy gaming on INTEL MOBILE 1.8Ghz GrimDeath, if you know what im talkin about

grimdeath
June 15th, 2005, 05:46 PM
Well if 1.8 that satisfies your needs hey thats you, i prefer 3.8ghz anyday :thumb:

just to inform u ::
IntelŪ PentiumŪ M Processor 730 (1.60 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB) is equivalent to 3.2GHZ in a normal Intel 4 desktop

IntelŪ PentiumŪ M Processor 730 (1.70 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB) is like 3.4GHZ
and
IntelŪ PentiumŪ M Processor 730 (1.80 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB) is like 3.6Ghz

I dont think u understand what a mobile technology is, it sounds small as a number but its completely different designed for laptops, and you even get more performance grimdeath

Well how can you say a 1.8ghz with 2MB cahce and a fsb of 533 mhz is almost the same as a 3.8ghz with a 2mb cache and a fsb of 800mhz i only see higher numbers and the fsb is what really matters here, the only good thing about a mobile processor is the energy consumption if im wrong please direct me into the right direction so i can read if what you claim is true.

For finding the P4 equivalent of a P-M, you can multiply the P-M speed by something around 1.8 to get the P4 speed. In Anandtech's benchmarks, a PM 1.8Ghz is faster than a P4 3.2 GHz in several cases: http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=2129
