For some reason, iTunes likes to freeze. A lot. In the event that it actually opens, while importing songs, it freezes. When I connect my iPod to my PC, it freezes. Is there anything I can do? Maybe, like, not use iTunes? Dragging and dropping doesn't seem to work, since the iPod can also be used as an external hard drive. Suggestions?

Have you already installed v 4.8 of iTunes?

As far as I know, you can't sync your iPod with RealPlayer, or any other player for that matter. Try searching www.sourceforge.net for a program.

No, the iPod has a special folder substorage system that you can't duplicate yourself.
I mean, you CAN drag+drop files onto it and it'll work, but you won't be able to actually play them with the iPod.

i know... same for the creative zen mx i got... (that was quite a dissapointment when i bought it i must say...)
edit: my mistake, above isn't totaly true... you can drag and drop... but you need drivers to do that... very complicated (just as the iPod)...

SHow hidden files on a windows system shows the entire directory structure of the iPod. Ive never tried drag-dropping files to be played on the ipod but ive done vice versa once.

Don't drag and drop. Try deleting the iTunes preferences, it's like re-installing iTunes but better because it actually works.

Sorry.....:upset:
Windows XP pro 5.1 build 2600
3.0Ghz Intel P4
512 Ram
All other programs work properly, and just itunes freezes, not the computer.

How do you connect the iPod to your computer? My laptop only has USB 1.1 and freezes up while the iPod is connected but it does come back around after 5 minutes simply because the USB 1.1 interface is a lot slower than what the iPod is used to with either FireWire or USB 2.
If you're having really bad problems uninstall iTunes and wipe your iPod clean with iPod update then reinstall iTunes and start again.

just did so...
Here's what I've learned...I had selected iTunes to not update the iPod automatically, since it deleted songs occasionally. I didn't know you had to physically drag the library to the iPod...and after downlading 4.8 iTunes hasn't crashed since. Thanks guys.

I guess thats why they call it Manual Update.
It shouldnt delete songs occasionally unless YOU've deleted them yourself.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear on what I meant. If it's on automatic, iTunes will replace every song on your iPod with every song on iTunes. Usually, its the same. But sometimes songs on iTunes are removed, like if I'm trying to save space, and I have the songs on a CD or whatever. So, I assumed (yeah, I know, assumed...) that iTunes wouldn't delete songs not on the iTunes library, but would only add new songs. iTunes seems kind of poorly written, but it makes sense now.

I tested my sister's iPod with a bunch of PCs in the house that uses USB 1.1 and most of the time, it wouldn't even recognize the iPod being connected. I know it requires at least USB 2.0. USB 1.1 would sometimes recognize the iPod, sometimes it doesn't...so it kinda sucks.
