hello
ok...my sister wanted me to make a cd rom to promote a primary school in her area. i was just going to make this in dreamweaver then burn it to a CD.
NOW she is saying that most of the people in her area do NOT have computers so she wants me to make a DVD insted, as most of the locals have dvd players.
I dont know where to start!!!
what software do i use to make a DVD? she wants me to include digital video, stills and a bit of animation. I've got the adobe suite and use DW and Flash mx.
SORRY if i'm in the wrong forum. i feel a tad worried.
cheers.

as most of the locals have dvd players.
She did great research then
Firstly have you got video footage or do you need to go and do some filming? If youv got video footage and can get hold of a Mac with Final Cut Pro then use it for editing and chopping up footage, you can also import flash animations into it and then export it using the animation codec,
As for making the DVD im not sure as I havnt done that before, but if you want it to be REALLY basic, then use iDVD on the Macs.

Yeah or on PC, you can use a video editing program to make+capture your video(such as Vegas Video, Premiere, or even Windows Movie Maker)... And then any one of a number of programs for burning. Any DVD creation program from sonic(www.sonic.com) will work quite well. They actually also have some products that allow you to capture+edit+burn all in one.
Pretty handy :D

doesn't Adobe Premiere burn DVD's? As well as edit and construct them?

Adobe Encore's the professional DVD authoring app, but you needn't go as far as that to create dvd menus and the such....
Be careful though, there is a lot of things to lear about dvd formats (interlacing videos, video format, sound offset, width, height, pixel ratio - which is different than computer pixel ratio, color correction, difference between NTSC & PAL) etc...
Good luck with your project !

go here for all info regarding dvd and video www.vcdhelp.com the tools i use to make dvds mainconcept for encoding and Adobe Encore DVD, although Encore has a pretty high learning curve once you learn how to use it its simple, if you know how to use Photoshop and After Effects then you wont have a problem using Encore.
Good Luck :thumb:

I have a question....all this cool menus and stuff for "navigate" :P the dvd are made with which apps? AE what else? and the code to make all this transitions between sections flow which app people normally use?

As far as I know, the transitions are just clips played... leading to another menu section.

Most of the animated menus are done either with AE or any other video editing software and then controlled with Encore, you can make 15 secs of motion menu and then have diffrent motions, animations through the navigation of the dvd sort of like flash changeing scenes but a bit more complicated and no timeline.
You need to know how to use masks in photoshop for the buttons to create rollover states and other what not. Check the help file in Encore for more info its pretty helpful and straight forward.
Good Luck. ;)

easy way is to use Premiere for editing (dont think it includes a dvd authoring program) i use it and it takes almost no training to get the basics down. a top notch program (too bad it's been discontinued on mac).
use Encore for authoring. They have a free 30 trial you can download and use which has most if not all features.
@benkobe yes, the effects are done in AE usually and then the clips are controlled by the menu and options you have on the dvd.
the one thing is that i don't know anyone who has a dvd player that does not have a computer. in fact i got a computer before a dvd player so thats a weird demographic, what is it, a group of movie loving technophobes?
