Congrats. You should'a' done Gentoo though. Then you wouldn't need to find anything, just "emerge whateverTheHeckSoftwareYouWant" and it will look for, download, compile and install it for you :thumb:

well, i am kinda a major beginer at linux so i wanted to get something that was user freindly and has the basics installed in default. i have tried fedora before but found there was way tooooo many different pieces of software to do the same thing :D

Yeah, I know how that goes. I started with Slackware, and then moved on to Gentoo, but I'm still not that advanced. I'm learning, but it's slow going because I use Windows most of the time ;)
Keep at it, you'll learn. Google will be your guide :P

another WOOT!!! I DID IT!!! moment :P
i got my printer working under linux :D (curse canon and their refusal to support it)
anyway, turns out by randomly selecting print drivers that do work under linux you may actually come across one that works well with your printer.
in my case it turns out that the BJC 7000 print driver works with the Pixma IP3000 (albeit without duplex, cd printing or any of the other fancy stuff it can do)
and here i was ready to go out and buy turboprint :P

My first Linux Distro was RH2, which was definetly great for starters.

Yup, a good bang for your bucks. You should definitely *buy* linux before anything else.
frozenRage: Congrats on your install! You should also give ubuntu a try!

Right, but you can always use Win4Lin, WINE, and VMWare to run other applications. Granted, it's a major pain to install WINE/VMWare, but you end up with a sweet package if you succeed. :thumb:

Not true. Haven't you heard of the new HP-Ubuntu Laptop "collaboration"? (http://www.linuxworld.com.au/index.php/id;1945069031;fp;4;fpid;4)

I see them all the time in stores...Fry Electronics loves to sell their brand with Linux. Usually though, I see it on super low end machines, saves the buyer $100 not having to buy Windows.
