View Full Version : PHP <-> Flash simple gallery

I actually did this a little while ago, but haven't posted it before. It's a basic "gallery" system without thumbnails that checks a folder for images of the .jpeg format then displays them as boxes in Flash. You can then click on them, they preload and scale to your screen if your browser window is too small to view them in their full glory.

EDIT:

It also remembers, by the way of a small Flash cookie, what images you've viewed (turning squares blue). Images you've viewed that session, are red, turning blue the next time around you visit it :)

Check it out at:

http://stars.meido-online.com/Stars/simple_php_gallery/index.html

Source is in the lower left (the big Flash file symbol). Please notify me if you have any questions when looking over it, or find any bugs. The code is a bit poorly commented (if I remember correctly) so don't be afraid to ask! Also, on lower resolutions, some images look kinda "weird" when rescaled. The proportions are kept (scaling format) but if a large image (1280x1024) is scaled down to (example) 1024x768 in Flash, it gets a bit ugly sometimes..

*Note*
Not trying to "compete" with the recent submissions on the same "theme". This is just a post of my try at this kind of thing. But while I'm at it, I think my php code is as simple as it can get for this thing here ;)

Oh, and I'm also working on a more ***-kicking version of this. Coming Soon :player:

hmmm....that's actually very cool, at least for me, someone who knows nothing of PHP. Bravo!

dude... this is awsome, can't wait to see your ***-kicking version of this, i think PHP and AS is a great idea, even better with mySQL of course :thumb: You mentioned "Not trying to "compete" with the recent submissions on the same "theme"." i haven't find anything similiar to yours, which ones are you refering to? have a link?

Keep up the great job.

Peace.. :afro:

This is very nice man good job. I may even use it for a job of an artist I'm working on.

How does it sort the images? By name? And what do you plan on doing for your bleepkicking version? I could definately see some XML integration to follow along with this for some dynamic descriptions... and all that jazz.

I was still first :to: Just ask yourself, would you have even posted this if I hadn't put mine up here a week ago? ;)

P.S.- Good luck with a newer version. I was planning on making a php script that would also generate thumbnails (which is what I imagine you're going to do), it just fell to the back of my mind.

I think my favorite part of this is the load bar. I know its probably really easy for the people on this section of the site. But i really like it. :bandit:

Lindquist: Actually, I made this five weeks ago. But, well, I'm not that frequent of a visitor to Kirupa forums ;)

Galenmereth,
This looks awesome! I think it is a very good start, hopefully, we can add to this and make it even more useful/practical.

:stunned: that great!.
But, could you make that the image appears in some place, and not in all the screen?
If somebody knows...
it woud be awesome...
