Ok so hear is the deal i have a computer that i made a few years ago and i like it alot. It might not be the mosdt expensive computer but none the less it holds a speciale place in my heart because i made it. But and way to my question as soon as my computer goes on the fans kick on at full blast and make alot of noise. This makes downloading anything over night impossible because i cant sleep with that noise. Is there a prog or anything that i can use to control the fans? If not what do you guys reconmend?

Well heres some solutions I found when I had the similar problem (on my desktop) :

1. A poorly-designed power supply is usually the major noise generator in a PC. Inexpensive (cheap!) fans may have poorly designed blades that cause the air to oscillate at audible frequencies as it’s pulled through the fan housing, as well as inexpensive, noisy bearings.

2. I had a slow computer at the time, with only 256 RAM and a 1.5 ghz cpu. The problem was I was running such highend programs, that my computer had to chug it's arse to make them run. That could be the problem. Once I updated my RAM and CPU, it didn't get loud as often.

I'd suggest finding out which fan(s) are making the most noise, and work from there ;)

it's not so much the loud fans i don't like it is the ones that are trying to touch me or take something of mine. serious, i appreciate the attention, but get your own life....

when i read the title of this thread i thought you were talking about fans.. like people who really like you. I understand about the not sleeping part because whirring fans drive me nuts. As far as I know it would be your case fans that makes the most noise and your cpu fan, but don't they have super silent ones now?

I guess I'm not the only person coming here expecting some rock star complaining about their fans. I was awfully confused.

Try putting something between you and your fans at night. Maybe a pillow would do the trick, or a mattress.

Well, I can't think of a name off my head, but there are programs that you can install that may be able to control your fan speed manually through your mobo. See if your mobo's drivers come with any control software.

aight well i am almost pretty sure it my power supply. The reason why is because it was a really cheap one and it came with my comp case. I dont really got the money to change it so i would really like to have that prog you were talking about Morse.

But my people fans are quiet cuz i keep them locked in my basement with a sound proof door. :jailbreak

SpeedFan. :P
Google it.

You'll need a mobo that supports it though.

and otherwise you can install a fanmate (http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/view.asp?idx=70&code=017) between your cpu fan and the powersupply...

btw: is it the powersupply that makes the noise or the cpu fan?

Oh, mine isn't a program ;)

If you decide to buy a power supply, there are some really good ones out there, check newegg. I got a silent one :D

well i would definitely not change fans of the power supply... you could try speed fan, but i think buying a new one definitely is the best solution!

It's not the powersupply's fault, if the PSU has a problem, then it'd fry things.
