IE7 Transparent PNG Implementation

My name is Sam Fortiner and I’m a developer on the Internet Explorer team here at Microsoft. I joined the company about a year ago when I was given the opportunity to work on IE. Since then I’ve worked on several aspects of IE and recently settled down into the layout and display team. As part of my work in this team, I implemented support for per-pixel alpha in PNGs...

waow, finally! ;)

That's awesome, one less thing to complain about!!!

Looks like we'll be seeing a lot more png's ;)

it will be quite sometime before enough browsers are using 7 to justify me using pngs in my sites with out flash. But once it happens, man that opens up a new level of web design for everyone. Going to start seeing lots of flipped out interfaces.

I know what you mean DDD. Let's hope Microsoft's new thing with convincing users that they actually need updates (for anti-virus/spyware) will speed IE7 adoption up a bit.

Heh, so true. Plus that's one minutely small step towards Firefox standards... but I'm not getting carried away.

Haha thats funny! I've been using PNG's all over my site, only because I use Firefox and never tried it on IE!

I just looked, and the color is a little off (just how it was made). Pretty cool.

And I do have one gripe with Firefox. It doesn't support table border colors, I believe. That's annoying.

the worlds prayers were answered :) I think I'll stick with firefox now though IE 7 would have to be something special to be my #1 browser again.

PNG's file size is too big for it to become mainstream.

PNG file sizes are very close to GIF, and provide significantly more features.
