Huge news, either check Marcomedias site, press releases, Dev Center etc, or read the summary on my site (http://www.eyezberg.com/Flash_News/General_News/Macromedias_new_Flash_platform_strategy%2C_Zorn_an d_Eclipse/) (comments welcome)..

News about Maelstrom, the next Flash Player:

New file upload and download
Maelstrom supports file upload and download capabilities, which are under full user control. A Flash application can request that a file be selected for upload by presenting an Open dialog box to the user to navigate to a file and select it. Applications can also offer to download a file by presenting a Save dialog box. This paves the way for a whole class of RIAs that can intermediate between local content on a user’s machine and the web such as web-based photo management applications that enable users to upload their photos easily.

Very nice article eyezberg! Flash8 is coming out at the end of the year or maybe early next year. I can see how Macromedia is branching off into a different perspective after being acquired by Adobe.

I'm sad that Macromedia has so many products now 'aways. I liked back in the day when they had the Studio Suite, and that was it.

Although this does look wicked cool.

Now if only flash could create a .txt file without serverside then a lot of hard tasks could be solved at once.

that's true....

to think about it...I'd actually almost prefer if they did that than the upload/download function...

ah well, this is still great!
