I have 2 Hard drives.
One SATA and the other one ULTRA.
I use SATA only for my OS, for application I use ULTRA.
Will seperating OS and applications help to improve the performance?
thanks

if the drives are both fast (7800+), it should. I'm thinking that instead of waiting for seek time to get application info, and then seek time to read/write to the disc, both of those could run more or less concurrently, which would speed things up.
there are easier ways to speed up your computer. . .

i suggest you use the SATA drive for your OS and running appz the ULTRA for storage i have my laptop partitioned and trust me when you gotta format its a breeze getting your system back up again and continue working, my desktop is configured similarly only it has 3 partitions for storage at 100gb each and only 30gb for OS and Appz ;)

I have 3 hard drives - 1 for the OS, 1 for files and the other for apps and when I run stuff like Photoshop you can tell a difference but as for all other apps I'd say they run at the same speed.

well, a couple small drives are faster than one large one, but it's not going to be a huge speed difference. you'l probably notice it most when you're just starting things up, or if you let the computer go to sleep (so the drives slow down / stop) and then start working on it again.
