Here's a little experiment I did to create a more visual input field. Also, the code is pretty flexible, so that it can be used for practical things as well.

The source can be downloaded by clicking the Flash symbol in the upper-left corner.

Tell me what you think :)

that is a really cool and smooth effect u got there. it would be even cooler in my opinion if the letters would appear from the lower part of the screen to give the impression that the letter are flying from your keyboard to the screen. anyway, great job! :)

Wicked! :thumb: Can you do this with Flash MX?

pom: Sure. Should be no problem at all. I'll make a Flash MX source tomorrow :)
musicwithcolors: If you check the source you'll see that doing that would be every easy :) Just change the startXpos to Stage.width/2 and startYpos to Stage.height. Voilá.

looks awesome, HOWEVER if you backspace a couple times or whatever and then type again, the new letters overlap the old ones!

That's awesome.
However, if I try to select text, it no work. And it would be TOTALLY WICKED if the letters exploded into smithereens when you backspaced.
...or just flew off the screen. :P

Fasterthanlight: Ah, I notice. Will look at it, I think I know the problem :)
GWing: Indeed, you can't select it, since each letter becomes a movieclip. Maybe I should extend it so that it is possible though. I'll look into it.

Did you have time to do the MX file? I'm curious :)

pom: I had a quick look on it, but seems a lot needs to be rewritten to MX (used some AS 2.0 in it). I'll see if I can do it when these exams end.. Which they do today, so I'll look into it in the weekend :)
Also, I'll try fixing this annoying placement bug that appears sometimes if you type then delete characters in rapid succession..
