Yay! I got my new Nikon D70 today! I decided to take it out for a test run on my mom's flowers, tell me what you think!
All the outdoor pics were taken when it was overcast, and dim light. No flash was used. No photoshoping.
My cat was lit with the flash in a dim-ish hallway. No Photoshoping.

What battles do you mean? I guess you could pst them... as long as my name and a link to my site is in the post :)
why didn't you go with the D70s? or was the difference not worth it to you?
The D70 was upgradeable via firmware to the standards of the d70s. The only thing that was really changed in the d70s was a .2inch bigger screen.... definitely not worth the $200 more :)

I was pretty sure there were more impovements (such as better Autofocus and things like that, a bigger CCD as well maybe?) but I dunno... maybe I'm mis-informed.

the auto focus improvements turned out to just be a motor driver upgrade, that they let you download over the internet... (I checked and they have the same focus motor) and I've never heard anyting of a larger CCD. They kinda cheated when marketing it. They said that it had a longer battery life.... but in reality they just included a bigger battery with it (that you can already buy for the d70). I'm puzzled to why they even made the d70s. My guess is to just take what little things people didnt liek about it and improve. Nikon even released a thing saying that most of the D70s features can be made via a firmware change. :puzzled:

Combined with photoshop you could probably do pretty good. That camera is pretty nice too (4mp). The big difference between the slr's and the point and shoot ones is the lense size. The smaller ones just cant capture that much light. :) I could get pretty good results with my old 2 megapixel nikon point and shoot.
Here's one I did with my old camera.

Well my photographs turn out nothing like that so I guess I have a lot to learn. I just set the thing on auto and shoot... can you explain what aperture and tv/shuttersettings do? And how I should work them?

for that one I moved the camera far back, and zoomed in so it could achive that depth of feild look. I jsut turned the flash off, and got some florecent light tubes and positioned them around the peas so I had a front light and a back light to illuminate the whole scene, and a stroger light off to the side to create some shadows. For that shot I didnt play with aperture or anything.
Aperture is how far the lens is open. It's used to let more light in and to create a depth of feild look (open it all the way, and zoom in from a distance). Shutter settings is just how long the sensor is exposed to light. A fast shutter will freeze motion with minimal blurring, but reducing the ammount of light that getts to the sensor. A low shutter speed will let more light in for shooting in dimmer conditions. Remember when using a slow shutter speed you need to have the camera on a tripod or it will always come out blurry (becasue the picture is moving without it, so it overlays all the light it see's making ghost images). A low shutter speed is also used for creating those cool picutres where the cars or whatever are just streakes of light, while the non moving stuff is stationary.
Hope that helps,

I use a Nikor 18-70mm AF-S DX f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED (kit lens). Nikkor is the only way to go in my opinion. They are the only one that makes the glass themselves. : )

Good stuff 3DN. I hate all you ppl w/ the D70 :P... not really. I'm about to invest in a Cannon 20D which is a better camera for action shots... since the is ISO goes to 3200. But I know lots of ppl who love that D70, and everytime I see pictures from them I get jealous. :D

nice. I almost went with the 20d... but by user review people said that they liked the d70 more :puzzled:. Also, all the camera stores recommended the d70, even tho it was cheaper! Kinda odd, but I decided to go with nikon because of the nikkor lenses. Like I said they make their own glass resulting in the highest quality lenses. :)

I went and got these printed out on 18x12 glossy luster photo papper and man do they look cool. Looks better than on the screen. Also i found out that i had the camera on medium quality... so the now the pictures are a lot more detalied :).
btw. never go with kinkos for printing. I printed these out at costco, and they had them printed on glossy luseter photo paper at 18x12 and it only cost me 3 bucks! better paper than kinkos too!
