good point. i am going to start to do that because it will pay of eventually. hopefully. but as for right now, i am still learning the basics of Flash, so mabye when i get a little better, who knows. but i hope it all works out for me.

it will. Just don't try to go too fast, too soon. The better your foundation, the more consistent your income will be. If you only know a small portion, but know it well, you can get and keep a client. However, if you have a solid base to work from, there isn't really a prog they can throw at you (within reason) that you can't figure out with a few tutorials...

A big thing is to show current work on the web. A way to get this, is to do free sites for friends, their bands, your chess club, your Mom's collection of Beanie Babies, etc. Then when the oportunity for a paying gig does come up, you already have the portfolio to get the gig. Also, get a contract you like ready to go. Even start having your friends sign the contract (for $0), and get them to sign off of everything as it is created.

This will prepare you for when you have to go up against guys like me who have been doing this forever... After a certain point, experience means little...

Hi EG!

Ok. I think this software is not popular here. People use only 3D Max and Maya. Anyway, keep posting your work!

mdipi
March 19th, 2003, 09:05 AM
i think 2 or 3 ppl here use C4d, Hojo, EG, and Bull_dog. i use max. the majority seems to favor Max and Maya, but i know of one person that is using Lightwave.

i didnt know that. ok so 4 ppl lol.

hojo
March 19th, 2003, 09:31 AM
i'd prefer maya but its really really expensive. only reason i got c4d was a student copy from school.

c4ds just a simple version of maya, they made it to be a clone so they could sell it for cheaper and help people learn maya threw it

mdipi
March 19th, 2003, 10:03 AM
really? wow...i didnt know that....very cool, but now you can get the learning edition of maya, but it has those ugly watermarks

hojo
March 19th, 2003, 10:12 AM
yeah, watermarks are a pain. you can get around them by rendering and taking a screen shot :) (not that i have done it or anything)

hey E.G great rendering, have you ever tried to use HDR images to add realistic reflections ??? It's a real pain in the ***** for the rendering time but it is unbelievably impressive...

Hey mdipi

Am I that one lightwave user you know??

No one like lightwave but me:x

mlk
March 20th, 2003, 02:37 AM
Well, since it took me about 3 month to just get to know the keyboard shortcuts in litwave i did quit... I dont like the way the layer works and the impossibility of creating independant objects, somthing very useful in c4d...
But i do know lightwave is big gear but a real pain in the arse to learn howto use it ;-).....

Are you sure about that hojo? Both application are really quite different . Where Cinema has Hyper nurbs in Maya has nurbs, that and few other things are the only similarities i can see. One tool which cinema has that maya dosent is the bridge tool, which i think would be great for maya.

::::and Egeek, nice work mate, looks great. :)

Have you set up some up some character animation rigs yet?? :)

:smirk:

mdipi
March 22nd, 2003, 09:12 PM
ok i never quite got what NURBS was. i know its an opion in 3dsm but i dont know what it is...

.soulty
March 22nd, 2003, 09:13 PM
Nurbs are for creating more organic shapes in 3d.

.soulty
March 22nd, 2003, 09:15 PM
You also have Subd's which is like using Nurbs but having the editing ability of Polygons.

::Since Nurbs are based on points or CV's (control verticies) the way you model using Nurbs is different than Polygons, Its like Nurbs is Vector, working with curves and points, while polygon is working with faces, shapes, and vetexs.

mdipi
March 22nd, 2003, 09:17 PM
ok so like if i wanted to do a flower or something NURBS would be the better choice? and yeah that mech animated! WHOA!

.soulty
March 22nd, 2003, 09:20 PM
well it all depends on your modelling skills and choice of weapon, you can still use polygons roughing out the shape of your flower and then smooth all your faces after your finish.

mdipi
March 22nd, 2003, 09:22 PM
yeah i gotta work on my 3d skills. but its just SO hard you know?

.soulty
March 22nd, 2003, 09:22 PM
Or what alot of people do is actually go to polygons to subd's because of the ease of using both polygon modeling style while having a smooth result.

mdipi
March 22nd, 2003, 09:25 PM
hmm, i will look for Subd's cause i havent seen them...but i have been watching some 3d buzz tuts and those are really nice!

keep at it is all i can say, i went into 3d very hard for about 1-2 years while studying graphic design at collage. and my mind nearly exploded  I just kept working on it, using alot of tutorials, and just working on it. I'm still learning as well.

An other good thing to do when you want to become good within design is to look at things that have been designed. And ask yourself what you like about it, what you don't like. What makes it's a good design, what doesn't. How they did it, and why they did that way....

I'm still in a mediadesign school in Norway so I try as often as I can to look at good well designed pages to learn from them. And at the same time make my own stuff, because I learn a lot just doing things ;)

mdipi
March 22nd, 2003, 09:48 PM

if you sign up as a member , at the home section you will see the title Video Training Modules, with a image of a cd with 3dbuzz look listen learn, click on that , and then you will have to fill out the form and select what videos you want, These days it takes a while to get the vids, the more you post at there forum the more quicker you get the videos, and like i said if you help them out with some blank cds that helps as well.

Niiice Bot Geek!
I kinda wish you did somethin different with the legs tho.
Maybe if they were the same color as the shoulders to weigh it down or somethin. Or if the shape was as sculpted as the torso, doesn't feel as tho they got the same attention as the rest of the body.
Big fan, if you left it as is would still be beautiful image.

good to hear eg!! How is the animation rigs on cinema? easy /hard?

eyeinfinitude
March 22nd, 2003, 10:54 PM
It's not hard actually, just takes a lot of time to apply the bones to similulate movement.

Also takes a long time to render as well since I don't have access to my school's G4's no more.

.soulty
March 22nd, 2003, 10:57 PM
there is this great program called "Motionbuilder" mentioned on 3d buzz which can take your bones from your 3d app, and in motionbuilder in REAL TIME you can animate your character!!

check it out http://www.kaydara.com/

mdipi
March 22nd, 2003, 11:06 PM
still that could come in handy for really anything like that you do. so it could be a good investment. but i am modeling a simple watch right now and its acctually turning out ok! so i will post that as well. but isnt houdini an animation tool as well? But i think just a walking sequence of this sucker would be soo cool! man now that i am leaning modeling 3d is so fun! iight i gotta go, its getting late and stuff.

btw you can mostlikely try before you buy on motion builder too, so you might want to check it out.

.soulty
March 22nd, 2003, 11:10 PM
houdini is another 3d app. The Full houdini had , modeling, dynamic, particles, and animation all in one, then there are other version which you can get a lite version and and other versions which are more specialised if your not intrested in using the other parts in which the full version has.
