Ok here is the latest I've come up with for Daft Designs. I haven't decided on a color scheme and I'm not 100% on the font but let me know what you guys think? I'm not a good logo designer so any tips or ideas wold be great, I read the thread in best of kirupa about it. so here goes... let me know what you think!

changed it to a click to see:

OK here are some D's from fonts I found do you guys think any on them are a good starting point for a logo? I was thinking since daft means silly or insane (british slang term) something like the Asian influenced fonts would look alright I'm also considering a bonsai tree to incorporate since I love growing mine and or a "rock garden" somehow as I really dig rock gardens (I want to build a coffee table with a rock garden under glass)

Sorry dude but you need to scrap these and also the entire concept behind them. Back to the drawing board.

Looks too similar to deviant Art I think... try working out different places for your text and your "D"s.

Awww sweet man thanks I'm trying to come up with something for my personal portfoli site. though its very early in development so I'm in no hurry I'll keep at it and see what I can come up with deviant art huh? never thought of that

That's pretty much the same logo 9 times. Approach it from as many different angles as you can think of. By all means go for the 2 d's mirrored as one approach but try it lots of other ways too. The possibilities are literally endless and you've focused on one idea that hasn't come across too well. Post those and we'll carry on from there! Out of what you have the first two and last two are the best, the inverted ones with chunky black backgrounds make horrible logos. You're right the font isn't good, and the two d's are badly made, too thick in parts and too thin in others. Keep going!

I like the middle one on the top row. It looks like a really good design. Try making it all just blue or other plain colors and it will look great. I think a regular blue work work though.

well they are very riggid and techy looking. If thats what you're going for then cool. I personally dont like that robotic style.

May 22nd, 2005, 08:35 PM
Yeah better to hit the drawing boards. Aside from the kinda clunky and loose feel to it, the typeface selected really looks dated/cheapish, even for that style. Have a good explore with the next one, get that creative gland workin! Start off with a really simple base.

i would say that make a big d then right beside it small the "aft" and "esign" in mall underneath each other... that would look good..hope u understand what i am saying..

(edit)added some more to the pic I'm kinda liking the ones on the right the bottom 2 I'm thinking may have potential (along the lines of 8 9 10 & 11)
(edit) added a couple more quick ones ... and numbers

Cant say Im too fond of 8-11. To me at least, it doesnt make sense that on D is above the rest of the word and the other before. Maybe just use the one D?

booler
May 23rd, 2005, 06:10 AM
what about the others any comments on those?

saracenvii
May 23rd, 2005, 06:24 AM
not sure how u intend to use them but the dimensions of 6 & 7 may be tricky say on any business cards etc. However I think the font is more appropriate to the name. 1-4 are good but do they suit the name?
Im not a logo expert but if ur using the word daft that should be reflected in the logo shouldn't it? As a customer I would be expecting something along the lines of a cartoony type logo.
But like I say, im no logo expert :}

May 23rd, 2005, 07:16 AM
well I'm going to go with a vertical biz card thats one of the reasons the two are like that. its different and should be an eye catcher in itself being that way

saracenvii
May 23rd, 2005, 07:24 AM
I agree it should. In that case I'd go with a variation of 6. I prefer the one D but not entirely sure on the colours or background. Maybe contrast the D background with backgrounds in the rest of the word of the grey blue?

If you intend to run a design business you have to keep in mind that your business card is probably the first impression any client will get of your abilities. IMHO 3 with some work is your best shot.

Sorry Aaron. As much time as you seem to have put into these I think you still need to go back to the drawing board. I'm free to help you out over the next few days. IM me on msn (paddyduke@gmail.com) or AIM (paddydukedesign).

I'm also gonna try my hand at a few logos to give you some ideas.

I like the colors of 1-4. But the overall ideas aren't quite there yet and I'm not a fan of any of the fonts. I'll see if i can sketch out some ideas later for ya.

Your fonts are still very techy and the name and now the logo is not. It's gotta match man. Or at least not be two different things.

ok Paddy suggested something along the lines of a voodoo thing

BoonDock
May 23rd, 2005, 11:10 PM
I think that you need to come up with a simple yet effective design and not worry so much to the name...think of something to represent yourself or what you want to use etc. Before you were using the letter D just because it fit with the title, sometimes the best logo's I have seen don't even match the words, but they stick because they are unique and have a good design. So possibly try something that is totally off the wall etc. Try something that you wouldn't normally do. I personally don't think that the voodoo character is what you are looking for...but that's just me. Don't let setbacks getcha down! Keep at it!

Boon out~ (-:

Well after that Paddy told booler to talk to PM him about it, so I assume further talks of the future of it what to do with that logo hae began and they are in the process of bartering, Just my assumption. I think booler knows that isnt his logo, just yet.

JCUSE & Paddy: Got ya. I only say that because, as Paddy knows, people on this board have taken examples, and used them as their own. I was just making clear... that's all.

unchew: Just cause YOU wouldn't pay for a logo doesn't mean someone else wouldn't. This is how us not so "part time ahck" ppl make our money. However, I do find it odd selling a logo to another "design" company.

I meant I wouldn't buy a LOGO I am going to use in my own design company. I think you must show your customers YOUR work as an example of your capability.

I can do web design not logos, I've never done logos I have done webdesign for people with an identity already hence why I can't do logos for sh!t Thanks for the concern simpli I'd never take someones work without proper recognition and as discussed payment. I don't see a problem with getting a logo made by someone else and to be honest if someone wanted a logo done from me I would at the very least sub-contract it out to someone or more likely just send them stright to someone else, I'm not trying to get into the logo end I mainly just do simple web design and maintanence I have all of 3 clients right now and I'm in the process of building that hence the need for a logo and identity.

May 25th, 2005, 12:17 AM
Although it is kinda strange in a way, web design and logo design are very different. It's not the first web design company/person that's had their logo designed by someone else - that's for sure.

I agree totally, and as you all can see I have tried to come up with something myself I just don't have the skills yet, I'll definantly be working on them and to be honest I think the design paddy came up with will look pretty good and has already opened up some ideas as far as what I'll do with the website. I agree its a little odd though 100%
