I wasn't planning on starting another 3d battle for some time, since it seems most people are busy atm. but I guess I'll join, what modeling did you have in mind? Maybe like a space war scene or somethnig?

Prancer
May 19th, 2005, 10:23 PM
Modeling: prolly something on this earth(it will prolly be less complex(*hint* easier */hint*))
Just throw some ideas around and ill put them up, then will vote. :thumb:

I personally making like a space battle scene would be so easy. Just model some nice looking ships, and put them into battle position. Or how about modeling a house?

May 19th, 2005, 10:41 PM
Im gonna watch the other thread do its funeral sink for a few more days before joining this one. It only seems right. I need time to grieve. :crying:
then lets battle to the DEATH!! Now theres an idea! Some 3d death models! Zombies, monsters, devils..... oh yea I could get into that!

Prancer
May 19th, 2005, 10:44 PM
A house would be pretty nice...
oh my, *awesome idea comes to mind*
how about a street, and 1 team makes one side of the street, and the other team makes the opposite side. then we'll somehow have to share the files and someone renders the thing. then we decide on which side is better.
The teams should decide a "look" for their side and boy that would be soo sweet.

Good Idea? yes no?

I'd like to join but please forget the zombie thingy, I mean most of us can't hardly poly model, so let's forget organic modelling.

A piece of furniture sounds nice. Let's choose a decade and each do independent furniture from it !

Prancer
May 20th, 2005, 05:53 PM
A piece of furniture seems pretty good.
I'll wait a little longer for some more ideas, but if not then furniture it is.

I definetly love the town idea, with the two sides.

McGuffin
May 21st, 2005, 12:39 AM
That city idea is good in an idealistic world, but would never get completed in this less-than-idealistic-world...

I think the furniture idea is the way to go. Decide on a decade, it'll give you enough artistic freedom to roam a little, but keep ya within enough constraints to make judging and comparing easy.

I'm not getting in this... yet... got some things that need to pan out.

ok, it seems that a piece of furniture from a certain decade is the predominent concept for this battle. if anyone has any discrepancies just state them, else lets get this on. And McGuffin, too bad you cant join this :sigh:

oh, p.s. if anyone has some good links for furniture throughout certain decades/styles, then post them up! :thumb:

I have been looking at different furniture styles and have decided to either go with a modern style or that of the victorian period. So what would you guys prefer?

Modern Pro- the modern style usually doesnt have all the intricacies, thus easier to model.
Victorian Pro- has more inctricacies, thus we could get some really nice pieces of furniture out of this.

I'd say modern, because I dunno about you folk but I tend to get bored and go do something else when I'm trying to do a lot of small details in C4D. :pa: Modern's more fun anyway. Could do a few pieces together :P

Hey Prancer, thanks for putting this battle together.
Just had a question, I know it has been confirmed that Modern Furniture is the theme. I guess what I am trying to say is do we take an existing piece of furniture and recreate in any 3d software? or do we have create an original piece of furniture?
I am just new to these battles so I want to make sure I understand what is needed to be done.
-brainfart

ElectricGrandpa
May 25th, 2005, 10:17 PM
Do something original. Can't go wrong with that. :)

I also have a question: How should we present our piece?

Should it have any kind of environment/setting? Are we allowed to have props(such as placesettings on a table, cushions on a chair)? Are we presenting just a still and a wireframe, or can/should we do a short clip as well?

-Matt

Prancer
May 25th, 2005, 11:40 PM
@brain: as long as you created it in a 3d program, and didnt steal someone elses picture, than its all good.

@electricgrandpa: the accesories, I'm all for that. if you want to make an environment, then go ahead, but try to keep it simple, so that the focus is on the piece of furniture. finally, if you want to make a clip, be my guest, but that's not what is going to be voted on. :thumb:

How are everyone's coming? I can't come up with a good enough idea, most modern furniture is too simple to be impressive to model... or something like that.

if anyone has some sketches or something, then I'm sure we all would be glad to see them, or maybe a link to a website with a lot of that stuff. :thumb:

ElectricGrandpa: I am not trying to be a wise a** or anything... Remember that question I asked, "do we have create an original piece of furniture?" Well what was the answer you gave me?
"Do something original. Can't go wrong with that."
Having a little trouble there with ideas? I know what my problem is, and that is I have to many BRAINFARTS!

Prancer: I had done some research last week and came across a modern furniture company. That might help. Just do not have the link as of now. What I also found out was that the Philadelphia Museum of Art has a good selection of Modern Furniture pieces. There is some information and links you may find on this page http://www.philamuseum.org/exhibitions/exhibits/knollbassett.shtml
might not be helpful. As soon as I find that website I will pass it along that is if you do not change the battle to something else.

Okay so maybe that website is not so helpful. Do to the date of which these artists designed some of the furniture. But they do have an exhibit at the PMofA and might get some ideas from those artists.

Hey Grandpa, nice render you got there! I'm jalous for your metal! I don't understand what is this second 'leg' on your chair. I think without that piece it would already look 'simpeler and cooler'

But where are the other people's submissions???

lol, yeah that's the same thing I was thinking too when I said "I just thought of a way I could make it much simpler and cooler so I might do that sometime too."

I don't know if I have time right now to take out that leg, but maybe I do... haha :) I'm afraid it might end up looking too much like a lawn chair or something... oh well we'll see! :D

PS: I just noticed that my wireframe only got half-uploaded or something, so I'll have to fix that too...

m.c.bell, I like your design, but the colors were horrible, maybe something far away from neon/lime green? :D

@Granpa, I like the design, except for the edge at where the back rest meets the seat. It's way to sharp, and that angle is to small.

@Granpa, I like the design, except for the edge at where the back rest meets the seat. It's way to sharp, and that angle is to small.

Yeah it was originally curved something like the attached image was... except smoother... but it didn't look quite as cool. Well, you decide, haha :)

Also, I did a bit of imagining what it would be like if someone sat in it, and it actually wouldn't be that bad, your back would just be resting on the two rounded parts that come out of the back of the chair.

REEFˇ

Thats a different render, the first one has something sticking up the sitters a hole.

ElectricGrandpa
June 21st, 2005, 11:04 PM
Yeah the whole reason I put it up is because it's different, it shows the seat part with a more rounded bottom. The first one doesn't have any part up the a-hole though, haha :)

It would still be just as comfy... It's no big leather couch, but I don't think it would kill you to sit in it.
