ARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Over the past few months I have been encountering more and more problems getting games and DVD’s to read in my PS2. I just bought the Getaway and am yet to play it because my system won’t read the disc.

I took this problem to google and found out that there are tens of thousands of people just like me that get this message. Obviously I cleaned my system of dust and all that good stuff with nothing working. I called Sony tech support and they said they would either fix it for free or send me a new one for free, and all I have to do is send them the system.

It is mighty kind of them to do this for free considering my system never had a warranty. I am just a bit urked that this is such a common problem. I don’t want to be without my PS2 for the 6-8 weeks it will take to get it back or get a new one.

I dunno Just ranting…..

I know what you mean, well my buddy does anyway. I dont have a ps2 but he does and has the exact same problem you do. He sent is back but they charged him a standard fee of 80 bucks to fix it. Sounds like you are getting a deal forsure!

My advice to you - send your ps2 away, go to wal-mart, buy a new one, keep the recipt and then take it back and say the **** thing stopped working AGAIN and that is the second one you have bought. Tell them you want your money back and there ya go!

You arent without a playstation and you might get a new one in the mail for free :)

I did consider that sure but I dont wanna rip off Sony. The system has brought me hundreds of hours of sheer violent fun.

Plus its things like that that case them to initially charge $299.00 for the console to begin with.

I guess its such a common problem now that Sony will fix it for free.

I think I will just wait the 6-8 weeks to get it back.

I still have GameCube and XBox w/Live....

Yeah man... That's the only problem with this supposably "e-lite" system... I have 2 friends around here who had to send theirs back to get a new system...

I love Sony and everything... But I'll stick with my X-Box for now.. Haven't had a single problem on it yet.. :)

I called tech support and the guy said its a very common problem with the first version of the PS2

They were going to recall them, but thought it would be cheaper to deal with them when they crap the bed.

video games are really for people who can't control a pc, don't you think so?

Jubba
March 17th, 2003, 09:39 PM
NO. I like to keep my work and play separate. My computer is used for programs like Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, and 3Ds MAX when I feel like being adventurous. I think its important to keep things that are work oriented and things that are play oriented separate. Are you saying that I can't control a PC because I own and play a PS2? :P

Consoles are around because of one thing, video games. That's what they're for, that's what they're good at, and that's what PC's just can't do as well. PC's suck for gaming, anyways. To play Generals I'll have to buy like... 7 gigabytes of f'n ram, and the newest video card. Maybe a future video card, this game is so **** picky.

Can a mod please move this to computers and games. This thread was around before it existed ;)

wow.... 2 year old thread :beam:

So my PS2 was on the fritz again. Disc read error once more. I thought I was hosed because I had to open it up to get a stuck (and ruined) game out.

One of my drunk buddies tripped over the cord and dropped it while we were playing madden. But thats another story.

So because I had to break the security sticker to open it I voided it. Sony wont take them back any more.

So I let it sit for a month or so. Because of the friggin disc read error.

Last night I was feeling adventurous and decided to see if maybe the laser eye was dirty or something. Ripped it open once again and took off the cover to the drive tray.

I just used a damp q-tip soaked in alcohol and another to dry it very lightly on the eye.... threw it back together and it works like a champ.

So at least if it happens again I know I can do it myself.

I lost my PS2 to disk read errors about 2 years ago. I went out and got an x-box and have never looked back.

Yeah GL, it is a massive pain in the balls but the problem was I was knee deep in GTA San Andreas when it bit the big one again.

That game is sooo good.

So last night was spent the entire night playing it had a few (too many) miller lights.... was a blast.
