Im doing a menu for a wine tasting... they call each one a 'flight' (as it is a virtural departure to the area of production - in this case Argentina). Anyway, they wanted tons of color and a retro style... so Im trying to use shapes to unify the design allowing me to use many different colors.

2nd revised version placed below first, in same link
The blank area will be used for a description of the style of wines offered. This will be printed on 8.5 x 11

I like the design idea, i think the colors are a little off though and the text is a little hard to read, especially "flight of". There seems to be too much empty space beneath the "flights to argentina" I think you could add some cool oldschool plane/stewardess type elements. What's with the bottles shooting out of the circle thing? They kind of look like citys or weeds and whats with the dripping? is that just to make it look retro?

The drips aren't retro at all. But other than that, i enjoy looking at it.

j_polo... read my post again, the area under the title (the empty space) is going to be for a description of the region the wines come from, I just havent gotten that info from the client yet ;)
I agree with you on the 'flight of' text being a little rough to read - it's much better in print, but it could still use some tweaking.
Thanks for checking it out.
Peace
PS as for the drips, I just wanted them there, I kinda like the feel it gives - as if somone stamped the circle and price right before handing out the menu.

I've changed it a bit to better reflect their 'flights' theme for the wine tasting. Again the large blank area is going to be for a description they havent sent my way as of yet.

j_polo... read my post again, the area under the title (the empty space) is going to be for a description of the region the wines come from lol yea i read that but for some reason didn't remember it when i looked at it :P
The plane is much better, i like the engines. And the drips look better without the wine bottles there.

glad you like it.... Im still messing with the positioning of the plane, I might move the 'stamp' up and put the plane below it - I havent decided yet. I kinda like it lower right now cuz it looks like it is just taking off.
Maybe I'll post another link to other versions later.

Thats a good design.
Perhaps the titles of the wines aren't as definative against their backgrounds. And some of the text is hard to read. Other than that, I love it. I like what you've got going on with the bottle and glass sort of theme for the text backdrops. Personaly not sure whether the driping label works; it looks cool, but the rest of the colours are all solid. I understand what effect you were going for with it, but not sure that quite pulls it off.

I agree about the titles... I actually swapped the price and wine name style (white on black vs colored on white) and it really improves the whole look by adding interest where it should be: the wines, not the prices.
Regarding the legability of the text, yeah on screen at 72dpi it is pretty bad in areas, but when its printed it is actually quite clear, but I agree on the web it has issues.
Thanks for checking it out!

I've added another version in the same link. In this version I've updated the text color changes I talked about in the last post (which are final), and I've changed the position of the plane (which may or may not be final). Let me know what you think!

I didnt mention anything about that, so I am really happy that you picked up on it. It always feels good when the subtle elements of your design come out! :thumb:

To be honest, I was expectin' more from you, bro. I don't like the colors. The plane isn't drawn correctly - something is wrong with both, the righ and left wings + shadows and outlines're not placed everywhere, where they need to be. The design/style of the circle doesn't go well with the other design (that mostly reminds my style). The choice of fonts is poor. Texts are too tightened. :hat:

the final version is posted in the link.
Tommy - well I guess we just have a difference of opinion. Regarding the wings on the plane, the dimensions and angles are taken directly from a photograph, so with that in mind Im not going to change them. The shadows are incomplete, I'll conceede that, its just not a big enough project for continued development.
Im sorry you dont dig it - I do. :-/ Either way I am happy that you dont just dislike it, but you expect better from me, I'll take that as a compliment ;)
Peace
