Adobe Illustrator. ;)

...or Freehand. :|

I don't know if they'll give you font effects (or whatever other effects you're going for), but these are good for "logo making."

Flash would be best. It has some great design capabilities. Just need to know how to use 'em. Check out cartoonsmart.com for a kickass logo tute.

i disagree. I (and many others) find flash's vector controls really frustrating to use. You really can't beat Illustrator for precision, options, usability and everything else (except price tag!!).

and you DON'T want to use PS for logos!! Photoshop's vector capabilities are really limited (NOTHING compared to illy which is vector-BASED) and if you suggest using pixels for a logo i might just cry. The whole point of a logo is that it can be easily scaled, manipulated etc. which is why vector is perfect. that and the fact that it's just the done thing.

Flash has the worst vector capabilities of any vector program. Illustrator or Freehand is the way to go for logo design. As for doin effects, effects are for design... not for logos. So if you're makin a graphic or design then use PS to apply effects. But to create a logo PS is not your man.

No mention of Corel?? I just got Graphics Suite v12 and love it. It will take more time to learn it but after the first day I enhanced our company logo. I just recreated it and made it a vector image. I am still touching it up but Corel is intuitive for the most part.

I would recommend at least looking at Corel, I dont know much about Adobe Illustrator but I hear they are both very good.
