I can only tell that this site is the worst I ever saw... I can't even scroll!
Sides that: it's a clear photo-manipulation-composition. Looks nice, :)

you can make them yourself (if you have some photoshop skills) or ask someone on these forums to make one for you, :)
Or try google of course, ;)

Uh... right... I don't want to go into detail about how dumb of a comment that is.
As for the sky, for simple quick results you can take a sky... put a layer over it guassian blur it, and set it to Soft Light... it's called overexposure. I'm sure there are more threads about if you can't figure it out. They had a lot more involved into theirs... but you'll get the picture.

Simplistik, before giving comments on others, make sure you know what you're talking about.
Open the site and resize your browser to about 800/600 sizes. You can't see half of it then. And no means of scrolling.
If you ever make a site, you only make it for 1024/768 too, right? Go read some usability essays.

I know what I'm talkin about... if you read you'd notice that it says b4 you enter it says the requirements are 1024x768.
Also, don't start to try and judge me on how I design my sites, and definately do not try to determine what you think I do and don't know. I make my sites based on how the client wants it and the target market. b4 you make comments on the way a site looks go ahead and read some design books. to make something look good sometimes you have to sacrifice things.

I think that site won the ITA SOTM once... maybe just SotW... but still a nice site. I had it in my bookmarks.
Actually, the background to that site is random, but I know which one you're talking about. I don't really think the type of sky has a name, per say, you described it pretty well yourself with "Fantasy Sky."

I was surprised to see that site after reading the comment that it sucks. I definitely thought it could win SOTW of ITA easy...

I just noticed that the site changes based on what time you visit at - amazing! I have even more respect for this site now
(if you can't wait half an hour or so, just play with your system clock for a bit)
