Its not one easily appreciated. Burton's movies can be hard for some to digest, though this one was a bit on the crazy side. Its not one you'd appreciate for its style or story, but one where you just have to appreciate the little catch-phrases and sayings which make the movie as enjoyable as it is (<-- not that its THAT enjoyable, there are better... but, you know).

if you actually want a really crappy movie, get
Surf Nazies must Die (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/6304852436/ref=ase_dvdconfidenti-20/103-9514760-5333414?v=glance&s=dvd)

The title already promises what the movie contains - crap
It isn't political, nor is it funny (the title is probably the most funny part of that movie), it has no special effects (if you leave out the attempts to create special effects), it isn't entertaining, it isn't even good for unintended laughs - it's just crap!
|->edit: i almost forgot a picture of this fantastic film :P

The worst movie I have ever seen was Koyaanisqatsi. (http://www.koyaanisqatsi.org/films/koyaanisqatsi.php)

The movie would have been great if there had been a plot, some dialogue, etc. The movie was 2 hours of nature/city time-lapse videos with some bad 80's techno music. Think of it is watching for two hours the moving clouds sequence on 2advanced.com's earlier site. It's Winged Migration minus the birds. It's Saving Private Ryan at a hippie rally without a guy named Ryan. It's Jurassic Park featuring lab rats as opposed to dinosaurs. It's Monty Python featuring 2 hours of a web cam sequence of a python named Monty. It's a Blue forum style not featuring the color Blue.

I judge a good movie based on how many things blow up and how many bullets get sprayed in the air. A good movie in my opinion is not watching some person shave in public, fly over the grand canyon for about 10 minutes, watch lights turn on and off over a period of days in a downtown highrise, watching pedestrian traffic in really high speed, watching construction crews "harm" the earth, watch a really slow-motion video of an unmanned space-rocket explode, and more.

I thought the movie was decent after I watched it, but I returned back to my senses a few days later and found it horrible ;) I simply had high expectations of something that Francis Ford Coppola had a part in.

Cheers!

Many movies that were "revolutionary" for their time are horrible to watch 15-20 years after they were made :) . . . I saw it around the time it came out and it had a pretty powerful effect on people (same with Baraka, of similar theme but better music). I think if I saw it now though I'd be horrified and bored. Oh, and Phillip Glass (who did the music) should be banned from doing any kind of musical project ever again. :jail:

I believe it is Family MAN, and I for one, loved it. Well, I like Nic Cage most times... but I didn't like Con Air, so maybe it's not jsut my bias for Family Man that made it good. I thought it was an interesting film, was really scared it would suck, so maybe I jsut had low expectations and it did better than I thought.

Virtuosity, with Russel Crowe and Denzel Washington was tremendously awful, but I will give my Palme d'Or to Ballistik - Ecks vs Sever, with Antonio Banderas, Lucy Liu, Talisa Soto and whatshisname (bad guy from Payback). I think I would have done a better job if I had directed the movie with my eyes closed. The acting sucks too. So do the action scenes, the scenario, the dialogs, the title, the lpace where they shot it, EVERYTHING!!

And Total Recall??? Who said that? Total Recall is awesome!

The top three crap movies of all time in my humble opinion are as follows:

3, Little Nicky (people in wheelchair getting hit by cars is just not humorous)

2, Island of Dr. Maraue (sp?) Simply put W.T.F.

1, Magnolia (this movie hands down deserved a walk-out, except I took my mom to see it so I couldn't leave. Besides the Tom Cruise character, what the hell is this movie about?)

I liked Little Nicky...yet agree with garyzero - Punch Drunk Love != good. It was only funny when he lost it and freaked out. It was an indy-art film though, so it's to be expected to punch a wall and have 'love' appear on your knuckles or throw in an old organ to take up a good half-hour of film. Hmmm.

Another one that I've been trying to think of for a while was that newer indy film with Bill Murray called Lost In Translation. It has some good parts here and there, but it took so long to get to those parts.

there was some talk about punch drunk love, not a bad movie, I loved it. Most people didn't get it, especially that it WASN'T REALLY much of a comedy, at least not anything near what Adam Sandler does normally. I've seen him branching out more lately, I and for one am very happy and excited about it. The movie was just really interesting to me; sad, with some darker humour, I guess, like when Barry (adam's character) confronts the jerk that was running the scam on him... I thought that was just great. Everyone hated it though... *sigh* NO ONE likes indy films, they all want mainstream crap, sorry but it's true. One of the worst parts was telling customers how it 'wasn't like what adam usually does...' and they just say, no thanks. I mean not even giving him a shot... *sigh*

Typically I'm like you and like the dark humor and non mainstream flicks but I just couldn't get into this flick. I knew going into it that it would not be Happy Gilmore type humor. But I probably could have enjoyed it more if they could have turned the music down during the talking parts. I mean it was on 11 and I had to turn my TV up to 40 to hear what they were saying. And the music was like nails on a chalkboard. It sounded as if they gave a group of crazy people musical instruments and they banged them over their heads repeatedly.

It really didn't have much of a story in the end and was not anything that left me thinking, unlike the dark movie Donny Darko. Now that movie was good as well as the dark movie Memento.

Punk Drunk Love deserves to be on the worst movie list. Waste of talent and time in my opinion.

Hmm, I also loved Donnie Darko and Memento. Great Movies.
But, well, I thought the music was one of the most powerful aspects of PDL. It was strange and unsettling, and gave you a feeling of franticness, I thought. It seemed to me that it was there to let you feel how Barry felt, as if things were just pushing in around him. That's the impression I got. I felt every bit of the music was an intentional plot device.

garyzero
June 9th, 2004, 02:58 PM
I definitly agree with you on the music. I caught that same feeling as well. But in the end its still good to be able to hear what was being said by the actors over the music. Maybe besides the music something just didn't sit right with me about it. I can't put my finger on it, maybe it was my mood that day. Too bad because if I see something I don't like I never give it a second chance. Too many movies to watch and good ones to re-watch.

If you like dark movies maybe even slightly funny but dark, try The Vagrant and let me know what you think. Its from the early 90's though, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105719/
